Braking while the gas pedal is stuck

Howdie G35ers;

I came from the dark side to verify what someone said about G35 in another forum. He said that his accelerator pedal was stuck in the mat and he had to shut the engine off while travelling to stop the car. I'd think G35 would be smart enough to power down the engine if both pedals are pressed hard. Can someone verify that G35 would allow engine to run to redline while the driver is braking hard?

I don't believe the ECM is intuitive enough to prevent red-line rpms from a stuck gas pedal.
From memory, a few have posted about poor floor mats that have hung up their pedals with the same result.
The way to avoid such issues is to use Infiniti mats that fit properly.

.......and welcome to G35Driver.

Colin.

It should be obvious if the driver is also braking hard, right? I'm told that BMW does power down if both gas and brake pedals are pressed hard.

Thank you.

The G35 will cut gas (but not completely) when the brake is pressed as well as the gas. Given how it works, it would be entirely possible to bring the car to a stop if the gas pedal was stuck down. (might take a while but there ya go)

If i remebeer correctly, 30% of power is cut when both pedals are pressed, which is why come people pull the vcd/brake fuse so they can do burnouts.

Thanks for the replies. That makes more sense. I couldn't believe any car, let alone G35, would allow full power while braking hard. Back to bimmer forum...

Also, and I can't speak for BMW drivers, G35 drivers are smart enough to throw the car into neutral.

How does this happen if the g has positive location driver mats.

I believe there is a TSB on this, warning not to use the all-wheather floor matts on top of the standard matts. This would cause the accelerator pedal to become stuck under the edge of the matt.

The brakes have 3 times the "horsepower" of the engine [acceleration to 60 vs deceleration [with brakes from 60].

Aftermarket mats are a lot cheaper but of course don't fit as well and won't 'lock' into those tabs to prevent movement.
The OEM mats are the way to go.

Shiit, the throttle on a Ford Explorer rental got stuck on me, years ago, as I was driving. Pressing the brake pedal did nothing, as the engine simply raced on. Needless to say, I threw the sucker into N and shut that piece of crap off. Called the rental agency and demanded an exchange vehichle (not an Explorer) to be driven out to me.

The stuck accelerator thing happened to me just yesterday as I left work. I have the weathertech mats and though they are "compatible" with the lock tab for the standard mats, they must have moved enough. BTW, I don't have them on top of the standard mats, just the all weather ones.

Anyway, I wish I had purchased the Infiniti all weather mats. The weathertech ones just don't fit well so there are big gaps where the winter crud gets on the carpeting.

I had seen the TSB and so I figured the pedal was stuck on the rubber mat edge. I put the car into neutral, pulled the pedal up with my toe, and then (sort of rattled) drove home.

I have an Exploder as a company car, the same thing happens to me on a daily basis. I have gotten used to it. When I mash the gas, I must use my heel to pull the mat back to release it. And this thing has "positive retention" mats, what ever that is.
