Wow. That would be great if a new design available! I've been looking at used G35s but all the premature brake wear reports are troubling.

Also, does the coupe use the same exact brakes as the sedan?

our 05X has just under 12000 miles on it now, with no squeaks, or brake issues at all yet. Will have to check to see how much pad life is left when I change the oil in a week or two. Even with the "old" smaller brakes, we seem to be having good luck with our brakes. They pulled me down from 120 mph with no drama at all a couple days ago on the highway.

 

Our '04 6-speed coupe came standard with Brembo brakes and bigger wheels (18 inch) than either the automatic coupes or sedans. The current MT coupes come with even bigger wheels (19 inch), but not Brembos. Anybody know if the brakes are bigger, too? The Brembos brake fantastic (especially compared to the new loaner sedan we drove) but I've got to say that the problems we've had are very disappointing.

 

The 05+ G35 Sedan/Coupe (not the G35X) has bigger brakes. Rotors/Pads/Calipers. Calipers are also dual pistons now. They are like 12.8" Brakes front~.

 

2003 G35 sedan, currently with 27,000 miles. Front stock rotors turned once, then replaced with a pair of new ones, front brake pads replaced twice.

 

05 g35x

front and rear 98% gone at 11,800 miles. Replaced with wagner thermoquiets. Seem great so far.

f*ck infiniti for having these garbage brake pads and having the nerve to tell me its normal.

22K miles...brakes are still good.
I drive 95% on freeways that's why.

 

2003 sedan... currently 40,2XX miles.

Replaced orignials at dealer under the free replacement at around 20K miles.

Just did all 4 sets of pads this past weekend at 40K miles. Fronts were completely worn to almost nothing, rears were at about 50% worn. Replaced myself with Akebono ProACT Ceramics. Was going to replace front rotors with the Brembo replacement rotors from TireRack, but was unable to get the fronts off. Oh well, at least I have safe pads again.

Thanks for the report. Do you expect the ceramic pads to last longer? Are the Brembo rotors expected to hold up better? And how much did the Brembo rotors cost?

And can anyone comment on what exactly causes the brakes to wear so quickly?

I asked my mechanic about it and he thought the pads might be undersized for the weight of the car.

I asked a G35 owner last week about the car and she absolutely loved it. But she rolled her eyes when I asked about the brakes. She then added that replacement tires ran about $200 each.

I've been seriously looking at used G35 sedans in my area but I really don't want a car that's going to be a money pit.

It's a relatively reliable car (albeit a slight money pit brake wise) but this is Infiniti's problem just like BMW's and Lexus all have one major problem that is exclusive to their car... I'm not sure what the BMW's and Lexus' problems are but I'm sure they have them. As for me, I'm at a little over 18,000 miles and my car is an '05x with brake squeal from 16,000 miles forward.

 

Nissan's problems don't lie in their brakes, I'd say maybe their transmission, but then the same would be said about a Lexus/Toyota transmissions.

 

The car goes from 60mph to 0 in under 120feet, I doubt the pads the are undersized.

 

Nissan's problem most definitely lies within their brakes. The Nissan Titan and the Infiniti G35 are the most prime examples. The transmissions and engines of Nissan/Infiniti have been bulletproof thus far. Lexus/Toyota on the other hand...

 

Ok well the G35 and Titan are not representative of all Nissan vehicles, and the transmission in my G35 sounds like crap.....and ask most people here would say the vq35 6 speed is not a bullet proof transmission...

I should also mention, my last Nissan went through 2 transmissions under 30,000 miles, my brakes lasted 29,000. On my g35, I have 26,000 miles on original brakes....

 

I can't speak for the 6 MT since I have an AWD sedan but I haven't seen too many threads on this forum complaining about the transmission. Not nearly as many compared to the number of brakes/rattles threads anyway. I'm curious to know why, considering your luck with Nissan transmissions, you opted to buy an Infiniti? Also bear in mind that just as the Titan and G35 are not representative of all Nissan vehicles (it was the tires on the 350z, not the transmission or brakes), the transmission issues with your G35 and previous Nissan are also not representative of all Nissans.
