Quote: First fill up the car and set the odo at zero.
Drive until you need gas again. (ie 300 miles)
On this fill up record how many gallons it takes to fill up the car (ie 15.0gal)
Do the math 300 divided by 15 equals 20 mpg
That's how I do it and I get aroung 19-20 with 70/30 (city). This with the AC on all the time (here is south FL you need it).

I always fill up 93 at costco ... sometimes cheaper than cheapest one near my place.

And lemme repeat, if you want a economy car, buy a Honda Civic ....

I think the problem people have is that this is car with a relatively small V6 that is typically getting MPGs similiar to a car with a lot bigger and more powerful engine. I get 18-19 in mostly city driving. I don't know what the car is capable of in 100% highway driving because I have it done it yet, but I have gotten as good as 22mpg. I think 24mpg is easily attainable. HOWEVER my old 94 Z28 auto (mid 13s, 285whp) got 17mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway. Friends with 6MT F-bodies and Vettes are seeing 17 city / 29mpg highway. I rent lots of GM cars with the 3.8 V6s for work and I consistently get 22 city / 29 highway. BMWs with the 3.0/3.2 I-6s are seeing 26+ highway and Acura TLs with the 3.2 are seeing 26+ highway. These are high performance motors too and they behave like it. The 3.5 VQ on the otherhand is quite a little guzzler for it's size.

so basically you fill up until the gas pump stops? sounds good.

does anyone know about how much mpg air condition takes away in city driving?

Just got back from an almost 300 mile trip - 2004 G35X AT w/ stock 17" wheels. Mixed driving - roughly 40% rural, 30% highway (cruise set at 71) and 30% city. Experienced lots of hills, and a 30 minute bumper to bumper traffic jam. AC on 80 - 90% of the time. Ticked off a 25.2 MPG with about 8,500 on the odometer. Drove like a granny, so good gas mileage is attainable if you can resist.
