You can even use the Weiser Powerbolt 3000 and unlock your front door as you come home with it.

I just had to do this as my daughter lost 2 remotes she had in her car, so had to reset all the garage openers in all cars (of course, then she cleaned her can and found them!).

Anyway, I have Craftsman openers. To set Homelink without an "old opener", you push the the opener "Learn" button. Then within 30 seconds, push and hold the Homelink button you want to program. Continue pusshing the Hoelink button until the "Learn light" on the opener flashes. It's a 2-person job but only takes about 2 minutes.

I would assume most brands of openers would follow this same procedure.

BTW, I found this in the Garage Door Opener Owner's Manual......

Or you could buy a replacement opener at Home Depot, progaram, then return it.

Personally I always come and go through the overhead door so I bought a small opener that fits on my keychain. Then I used that to program.

I believe using an old remote is only for older garage door openers. With the rolling code openers, if it read a remote, it would not work.

I set my homelink to the remote first and then to the opener through the learn button, maybe I added a step I didn't need to then.

big daddy d, where did you get the key chain remote, what brand opener do you have?

LOL, jimcambell, be careful using the "Hoelink button". you never know what might appear!

When I lived in Indy, one opened the carraige house door, one opened the main garage, and one unlocked the door from the garage to the house. Very handy.

When I went to visit a couple friends in Norcal a couple weeks ago, I programmed one of the buttons to open the gate onto their property. It made life a lot easier.

I got the key chain remote at Home Depot for $30? It has 3 buttons also. It's a Chamberlain altho my door is a Lift-Master. I believe those 2 brands and Sears are all the same. The bonus factor is the key chain isn't as sensitive as the full size so I don't have to worry about accidently opening the door altho I also found a sensor that fixes to the back of the door and activates a light if the door is open. I got tired of climbing into bed and then worrying about the door and having to go downstairs to see.. Now I can roll over and see if the light is on.
