Trying to sell my sedan, best options...

Hi gang

I have an 03.5 G35 6MT sedan with 29k on it. Never been modded. I also have a n Inifiniti factory 5 year, 60K bumper to bumper extended warranty that is transferrable. Has every option, but navigation and the aero bodykit. Its in excellent condition overall....I was hoping to sell for 26K.

Firstly, am I asking too much?

Second, I don't know if eBay is a good place for this thing. I have had luck selling honda's and such, but not sure if its the best place for the G.

Third, the local paper is worthless here in Iowa.

Lastly, I am thinking AutoTrader is my best bet!

Any other recommendations?

I just got it and have to sell it due to a home purchase that is headed in the bad direction. I need to avoid a car payment for a while....This sucks! Anyways, appreciate any or all advice!

Thanks!

For a private party sale, depending on how quickly you are looking to unload the vehicle, my guess is that price is not in line with the market. My guess is you would have much more success lowering the price $3-4k.

Good luck with the sale and the house.

let me say this... i've got an 04 (which came standard with heated seats and the sunroof etc...) w/sport package, which i picked up new for $26,900. you may want to reconsider your asking price. your worst enemies are the dealers willing to go very, very low. this keeps actual resale value down.

i agree with spendgy on this - lower to 22k, and you will more likely get a sale quicker than holding out for 24k or 25k, but 26k is asking a lot.

I don't know where you live, but here in Kansas City, a G outfitted like that has a private party price of about $25-26K. A dealership would probably be asking $27K. In the Northeast or other areas with lots of people and cars for sale, the prices are typically 15% lower. Go to NADA.com to help determine your car's value. NADA is usually pretty close. KBB is aweful and not realistic (ie it's operated by the dealership industry).

BTW, the extended warranty is a good sales pitch item. Make sure to state that in your add.

Use one of the appraisal tools on the auto sites.

www.edmunds.com has one.

I have had good luck with Autotrader.

Dealers here want about 28k for these as I am in the midwest, Iowa. Des Moines to be precise. Trade-in is 24xxx according to NADA...Also, I can reduce the price by 1500 bux if I cancel out my extended warranty. I still have factory warranty as well upto 40k. If someone is gonna mod it, might as well get rid of the warranty, right?

Its sad coz I just got it tinted last weekend and my rogue shifter got here as well. Good thing I didnt install it!

EDIT - On autotrader - 300 mile radius from my zip, I found 2. One with the same mileage asking 27K at a dealer.

If you find someone who really wants a manual transmission car but they don’t want to spend a lot on it then you might be able to get $25.5K for it. That is the KBB private party value right now. However, it can be hard to find someone who has almost $26K to spend on a used car. Do you still owe money on the car? If you do then it can be even harder to find someone willing to pay off your loan before they get the title to the car. I definitely wouldn’t hand someone $26K and hope that the loan company sends me a title. In the real world your car is worth at least $22.75K because that is the trade-in value. Carmax will usually give you this for the car. Anything more might take a lot of work on your part.

Out of curiosity were you able to sell the Saab for the private party value? Was the private party value high or low for that car? I have sold two cars through cars.com for KBB private party. However, it took about 1 month for each car to sell. Both were Honda coupes. One 99 accord and one 98 prelude. You can get private party but don't expect people to be banging on your door to pay full price for your used vehicle.

Yep, no one believes me that the market value of an 03 in a 150 mile radius of the Kansas City area (which include Des Moines), is in the 24-27K range depending on mileage, color, options, and the party selling the car. I bought my 03 (just like yours, black but a 5AT) for $25K back in late January. The going rate for my car right now is 25-26K private party and 27K dealer. I'm certain I could get $24.5-25K right now.

No one believes you because you haven't sold the car yet. When you do sell the car please let us know how much it goes for. If you could actually get 25-26 for it then you would be stupid not to sell it.

Last month, when trying to my 2000 Dodge Durango, I tried the online autotrader and the local paper. Not a nibble. I then tried the free Craigslist. Same ad I had it the autotrader looked better on Craigslist (better html support). Sold there in a week. I blew $45 on the autotrader and 2 x $55 in the local paper (two diff. ten day runs). The freebee came through.

Get on cars.com and track the price and how long the 03 G sedans last in KC. You'll see they're listed for a week sometimes two weeks. That's it. Asking prices range from $24-27K which is reflective of NADA and even Edmunds. Hell, Edmunds says my G is worth $25K private party. I can't see everyone knocking off 2 to 5K. Most people price their car $500-1000 more than they'll take for it. It's common sense.

If I would have listened to the people on Maxima.org tell me my 96 Maxima's value, I would have only gotten $3,500-4,000. I ended up getting $6,600 for it, which was fair market value at the time.
