** UPDATED Only 2005 with Tranny Slip/Wrong Shifts? UPDATED **

Dec. 2nd Update!

Well looks like they found the problem. There is a damaged seal in the tranny. Thus leading to tranny fluid leaking ... Msedanman you were RIGHT!!!! Unfortunately they cannot order replacement seals ... so guess what?

I'm getting a BRAND new TRANNY! WTF?!?!???! *sigh* I'm without my baby and a really dirty 04X loaner for a few days!

****

Arg ...

I'm pretty annoyed right now ... for the last 2 weeks or so, the transmission on my 05 X has been acting up.

At first it started making abrupt shifts (mostly 1-2, 2-1) then a few days later it began to slip (would accelerate from a standstill, car won't move for about 1500 RPMs, then it would slam into gear)

Now on top of all those problems ... my tranny now sometimes downshifts then upshifts right afterwards for NO apparent reason.

What's even wierder mind you ... is that it only happens Randomly ... and not sure if its coincidence (winter coming around) ... when the temperature is colder.

Anyone hear of or had similar problems?

I have an appointment with the dealer 2morrow ... but I don't want them saying "Can't recreate the problem"

Does your speedometer act goofy or quit working at the same time?

Could be a low fluid condition. Have the dealer check it out ASAP.

I know what you mean. Everytime I take my car to the dealer. They try to duplicate the problem it doesn't happen. They think I'm a dork and don't know whats going on. BASTARDS!!!

I brought it in Monday for an oil change as well as an early diagnostic. They never mentioned anything about having low tranny fluid!! A mechanic took it out for a test drive with me in it ... since it was raining, we couldn't get a proper test. But even then he said the car was acting a little funny.

They told me to leave the car with them for a day tomorrow so they can see if they can figure out what's wrong.

I guess no one else has had a similar problem here ... so now I'm a little more worried.

My last car had a similar problem that was caused by the vehicle speed sensor on the tail of the transmission. It's the sensor that the ABS and traction control systems compare the wheel sensor speeds to, but it also drives the speedometer and gives the transmission speed information for shifting. When mine started to fail intermittently the speedometer would quit working and the transmission would shift poorly, especially 1-2. If I shut off the car and restarted it, it would be fine again for about 30 minutes. After a couple of days it failed altogether and the transmission stopped shifting - I had to limp home in 2nd gear. If that's what it is it should be throwing error codes, and it's not a big deal to fix. Good luck.

It's like those bastards have a switch they can flip and your car returns to normal, they say nothing's wrong, then they switch back off so that down the road it happens again. So frustrating. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

[QUOTE=usual_suspect] it failed altogether and the transmission stopped shifting - I had to limp home in 2nd gear. /QUOTE]

This happened to me tonite! All of a sudden the Service Engine Soon light comes on, and the transmission stops shifting. I'm on the freeway barely doing 80km/h and my engine is spinning at over 4000 rpm.

Switching to manual mode, I'm flicking gears up and down and nothing happens.

The thing is, I JUST had an oil change (18000km service) at my dealer yesterday morning.

The car is still brand new... this is so frustrating, I do not expect this from a car like the G35.

I hope my problem is not as serious as having to have the entire transmission replaced!!!
