Re: buying car next week....G35 vs Volvo s602.5t

I've only driven the S60 as a loaner car, but generally did not like it as much as my C70. The driver's door seemed to intrude on the area where my left leg should be (it seems very thick).

I have been driving a Volvo C70 with the 2.3L High Pressure Turbo (236HP, 242 lb/ft) for the last 4.5 years -- The car is nice, and generally very solid. The interior is (IMO) nicer than the G35; the seats are extremely comfortable. No major mechanical problems, but LOTS of annoying fit and finish problems (bad paint on the front bumper the 1st year, window trim falling off, drivers seat would shift on acceleration...I could go on). The dealer managed to fix most of them after one (or more) trys, but I am generally displeased with the service department.

Ignoring that, the G35 engine is FAR smoother and FEELS much more powerful than the Volvo turbos. In reality the G isn't much faster 0-60 than the C70 (I remember seeing 5.9 sec published in one of the mags for the '98 C70 with the manual transmission), but it sure feels like it because the G moves so fast off the line. The turbos take a few heartbeats to really push you back in the seat. The G definitely handles better in dry conditions with the RWD. I will say that the Volvo is excellent in the snow with 4 winter tires and FWD with traction control.

I hope this helps!

i looked into the volvo s60's.
looked at 2.5t and R.
2.5 is zippier than the std car out there, but doesn't compare to the G. The R is FAST but 42k or so and most dealers won't even allow test.
i've heard misc negative comments about quality on volvo's over past few years.

volvo has more storage room, but the G sedan, actually has more.
