Eric,

Take a wide flathead screwdriver or something similiar in kind and simply, from the inside of the "Power Duct," push the 2 plastic pins of the 2 plugs, upwards.

Soooo, can you either hear or feel a difference? I had removed the power duct, as well. After a day without it, I put it back. I could not hear nor feel a difference, so I figured why suck up the additional heat from under the hood.

To get the duct off, all you have to do is take a phillips head screwdriver and push in the top of each pin and simply remove the duct and pins at the same time. It takes all of 10 seconds.

As for sound, I noticed a HUGE difference in induction noise after doing this. I do have a Z-pipe though. My father and wife were on board the day I removed it and they got a look when I went a little WOT getting on the highway. My old man said, "did you put an exhaust on the car?" and my wife said, "how much did this mod cost us?"

Dave, I think you put the piece of foam around the opening when you took your "power duct" piece out......did you notice a difference with the foam piece there?

I know some have said putting the foam piece there will keep the ram air setup? But with those foam pieces, aren't you restricting air flow? But without the form pieces, you're taking in hot engine air......

Just wondering if I should go with or without the foam piece around the opening?

When you say push in the top what do you mean? I mean if you look from the top it's a pin with two circle (one inner and one outer). Are you saying to use a screw driver and push DOWN onto the inner circle?

Not that I really need to do it now since I have the Stillen CAI installed but it's good to know since I couldn't stick a screwdriver inside and pop it inside out. Took me forever last time (yeah I am stupid ) so I ended up sticking a flat head from the top and just flip the pin up (made some scratches of course)

I recently tested it (z-tbue and k&n with power duct removed). It sounds louder WOT at 4,000 rpm+. Then I installed the stillen cai and the stillen sounds way better during throttle. You can hear it when it gets close to 3,000 rpm and it's alot louder than the power duct removed.

Believe, there's a huge change in the induction tone when you go from just the Z-pipe to the Z-pipe plus the duct removed. It sounds very much like my old VQ Maxima did with an intake. With just the Z-pipe, the tone is pretty tame. Give it a few days and the tone gets deeper.

I put the foam lip on to clean up the look a little and nothing more than that really. The foam does take away from some of the open volume, but it's still significantly larger than with the duct in place. I've done data logs of the air intake temp and I see about ~10 degree higher intake temps at a stop. Once rolling, there's no difference. At the track, I was no slower. Actually, I ran better (14.32 vs 14.49), but I attribute the improvement strictly to better conditions.

Yep, simply take a phillips head screwdriver, a pen, your keys, whatever and push down on the inner pin. That's it.

NO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY...I feel like an idiot now.

Never though of that since everyone was saying to push it from inside out.

I gotta try that next time. THANKS!

i think you do need a z-tube w/ it in combination - i can hear a HUGE difference w/ it off with a z-tube and k&n
