Me too...that's what I thought the reason was as well. Thanks Mr. Wonderful. Though they have window locks these days....so that's the main safety feature for the windows.

It all depends on the rear tire arch. If the arch extends forward enough, it will prevent the window from rolling all the way down. Many of todays cars have "stretched" wheelbases, meaning the tires are placed closer to the ends of the car than they used to be. This allows the rear window to go down.

that's what i thought was the main reason too... my 2k2 maxima rear windows goes down halfway only due to the smaller corner window and that dang rearwheel arch.
