Front lower compression rods

Anyone have a 2003 G35 that has had their front lower compression rods replaced recently? I had to wait 3 months because they were back-ordered. Just found out that the backorder was due to a redesign of the compression rods. Anyone hear anything about this or had the same problem?

I just wanted to make sure they're not trying to BS me because they forgot to place my order before. hehe

What were the symtoms that caused you guys to suspect/ask for the replacement? Thanks

That's part of the reason the '03 350Z's were eventually recalled and all fixed.
That same issue has been related to the '03 coupes but not recognized by Nissan (yet)....

So yes, the compression rods have been "in the news" b4 but only on early Nissans and G's.

Jeff,

I went to the dealer to have them look at a creaking noise that I get when driving over bumps. It happens especially when I just start the car in cold weather. The dealer examined my car and said that I had to replace the compression rod.

Davee,
Not sure xactly what the compression rod is or does... not mechanically inclined... sorry

Yeah. I had my rods replaced as well. The service advisor did mention that Nissan redesigned the compression rods. I think I got the new ones. Here are the part #s when they replaced mine:

ROD COMPL - TENSION, FR - 54469-AL511
ROD COMPL - COMPRESS - 54468-AL511

Here are a couple threads talking about this. It's basically a creaking sound when going over bumps at an angle:

jaywa, could you post the part #s for the rods they put on your car. I wanna make sure I got the redesigned ones. I had mine replaced in Dec 2005, about 4000 miles ago, and so far so good. Noise hasn't come back yet.

Took my car in about two months ago for the same symptoms as many had described. They finally got the parts in today. I have an appointment scheduled for tuesday, hopefully it will do away with the noise.

Those are the same part #'s I got back in December (2005). But just this past week, I started noticing the "creaking" noise again. It's very subtle so far, but my ear is tuned to it! So I don't think these parts have been "fixed".

Wondering what the new rigidity from some GT Spec lower strut bars I just ordered might do for this problem, which I also have. It drives me nuts...but thank god it's only a low speed problem. I think we might be living with this. This will compel me to buy the next gen before I am ready..

I don't think the strut bars will do anything...your suspension still needs to "compress" over bumps. I'm taking a guess at this though, as I don't know exactly what the rods do.

It has nothing to do with compression - this bar would complete the suspension geometry and tighten up turn in, thoeretically, and composure over uneven surfaces, especially over bumps. I think it reduces lateral movement of the control arm. GT spec or their many distributors has better explanation than I posted in thier info sites.

There's a hot thread on this now - search "gt spec"
