Static Electricity Shocks

Static Electricity Shocks
I have put up with getting jolted each and every time I get out of my G and close the door. But I can't handle it any more. I don't have the problem nearly as much while getting in, but out is no fun. I fact, it HURTS.
The static electricity is driving the wife and I nuts. Years ago a static strap was available for just this problem. Now, I walk into an auto supply store and ask for one and all I get is blank stares.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one having this problem because I searched and found a thread that discussed it with out any solution before it deteriorated into lunacy.
Has anyone solved this problem? Any suggestions??
Thanks
Chuck

haha Chuck, welcome to the club! It started happening to me a few months ago but I don't believe it's the car but what I'm wearing instead. It doesn't happen to me as much when I'm just wearing a t-shirt as it does when I wear a long sleeved jacket. My workaround (no solution) is to step out of the car and touch the door with the back of your wrist before making the full rotation and shutting it with your hand. That's the only workaround I've found so far but interesting to see that this happens to someone else. I just don't or can't believe the idea that it is somehow related to the G.

My wife gets shocked everytime she closes the passenger side door. I have never had this happen to myself. I thought that it might have something to do with the way she exits the car. Oh well, hopefully she will find some comfort in knowing that it's not just happening to her. LOL . . . She offers to drive her car when we go out.

the solution is to keep one hand on the door as you exit the car. do this before you place your foot on the ground and you will not get shocked. if you forget or are not able to keep your hand on the door as you exit the car, close the door by the window glass. make sure you get as close to metal of the door so that you put the least amount of stress on the glass.

I kinda got used to it, now when i get out of the car i lean any part of my body that is clothed (forearm, back) against the car (usually the lower roof area) as i get out and it shocks me though clothes. It not NEARLY as bad though cloth. Or I pull the sleeve over my hand as I close the door.. it still shocks, but I think forearm is less painful than fingertip.
I gotta try that holding the door thing, would make life better. Oh, yea… and I have leather as well.
