I actually think it's nice design. The flush-button version is too flush -- everything is flush. The new buttons give it a tactile response when you are looking at the road while trying to push the buttons. As you glide your finger, stumbling to find what you need, you can "feel" which button you're on. Of course, I haven't actually seen/touched the button in person, so just my $0.02.

I wasn't saying that the aluminum trim looks stupid / cheap. The way that Infiniti executed its placement looks stupid / cheap. It looks like Infiniti just placed a big slab of aluminum trim on the center console w/o really thinking too much about it. Look at the 2007 Acura TL, 2007 Lexus IS, 2007 Lexus GS, etc. Those vehicles have aluminum trim executed very well into the interior design. The aluminum trim is very harmonized and classy looking in those vehicles. The aluminum trim execution in the 2007 Infiniti G35 screams overkill IMO.

There seems to be a an excessive amount of it, especially w/the black interior, which may be the reason why the Rosewood looks better than the Washi. I will say the Washi is a much better implementation then the current use of Aluminum - friggen pop-can spec aluminum grafted on cheep plastic parts that have the assembly quality of a go-cart.

I wonder if the rich Japanese use Washi textured toilet paper
