Hi Shane,

Only via the in dash player and no mp3 discs.

It will burn from the following to quote: "CD's without mp3/WMA files, Hybrid CD-DA (Super Audio CD"s), CD-DA "discs can be used.

You can also recover deleted tracks. I assume unless you write over them.
default recording is 132 kpbs or you can chose 105 kpbs

07G,

Given all these restrictions and 132kbps encoding, I'd stick with CD-R with 192kbps+ mp3s.

Besides, ripping at 4X is SLOW. Can you imagine sitting in the car for hours, ripping 9GB of music?

I hear you. Guess I'll have to buy a 4gb CF card.

This is why F U L L iPod integration would have been better. MAngae everything on the computer and listen in the car.

Man, that's kind of a drag and a little dissapointing. Not exactly user friendly nor efficient IMO. Oh well, a 4GB CF card will still give you a ton of music.

Any ideas on the cost of a 4 GB card?

A 4GB will run you around $150 or so depending on brand. The cheapest place is ebay, but www.tigerdirect.ca has some decent prices also. If you want to go all out for a few extra bucks, pick up an 8GB.

I'll have to watch for a sale and a CF reader for the Mac.

Readers are inexpensive. I picked up one off of ebay last week $7 including shipping.

More questions about the Music Box:

- can you organize songs by artist, album, genre etc?
- I assume you can scroll the lists quickly using the dial?
- does it only display file names or other info as well?
- what info does the gracenote database provide?
- can you edit any of this data once it is on the hard disk?
- what do you see on the screen if you are reading off a CF card?

I am really disappointed in the limitations mentioned earlier in the thread. I have a lot of old CD's, but all my new music is downloaded in mp3 format (some even legally. . . It sounds like it's going to be a real hassle to get this stuff on the hard disk if we can't rip mp3's from the CF card.

So just making sure, you can PLAY mp3s off a CD-R, but you just can't RIP off of it, right? And if the CF slot can handle up to 8GB, that would be great. Much better than using 6 CDRs full of MP3s, because CD loading is much slower than reading off of flash memory.

I'm not too snobby to pick up a $25 thumb drive or SD for free, just haven't got the time and it expires on Sat.....

btw is this CF slot only for CF or multi? Even the new Nikon D80 has gone away from CF and went to SD. In the past, all of the serious digi SLR's were CF, I believe because of the speed. But if I'm not mistaken SD has ultra III now so it's no longer an issue, i.e. D80 and perhaps all of the future models will be SD.

F it. I have a 512MB card from my digi cam. I'll just keep on reloading it for 20 times or so, and do some back and forth jogging between the car and the computer... LOL
