Oil Consumption problem and the new VQ ?
I just stumbled upon this (really long) thread on this board ...
Reg. excessive oil consumption on the '03-'06 Gs .... leading upto engine replacements.
https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/110973-everyone-check-your-oil.html
Not sure if the new VQ (HR) engine re-design has addressed these issues (sounds scary for sure) - hope they've fixed the underlying defect
Guess this is a heads up for all new 07 owners to watch their oil levels every 500 mi or so to be safe !
And be sure to report back here so that we can see if there is a trend.

I think I'll wait till May to place my order. Hopefully we'll have good news that this issue has been corrected in the new VQ.

Again, forums like this tend to exaggerate the magnitude of any problem -- nobody knows the actual % of engines that had this defect - maybe it was small to begin with or was isolated to a batch or a set of batches - only Infiniti will know that info.
If it were indeed a result of a design flaw (unlikely since the VQ has been a very good engine for a very long time), I have a good feeling that it would have been fixed.
IMO - I wouldn't question your decision on waiting out for the next release ..... its your money after all

A few isolateded cases, (while bad for the individuals involved) always attract attention.

If you can wait & it eases your mind, then by all means wait.
My experience has been nothing but great, so I wouldn't hesitate... but that's me.

Have them check your oil consumption and get on the "system"
Good luck - hopefully your problem is something simpler !

Does the new G35 read out the oil level in the instrumеnt cluster? I'm not talking about an oil-pressure warning light - I'm talking about something that tells you what your oil level is before it's too low?
Yeah, I know, a dipstick is a simple, low-tech way of accomplishing the same thing, but it's easy to put off checking. Have to open the hood, get a rag, etc. My current cаr doesn't even have a dipstick - the oil level is read entirely from the instrumеnt cluster, either "OK" or (presumably) "not OK", which is dumb and not much of an improvement on an oil-pressure warning light.

In the past I would have been cautious too, but I think I've learned. In the big picture, what if a new model had issues that were fixed under warranty? Annoying, right? So you wait 10-12 mos. to get the car...maybe those bugs are out, maybe not. Again, it's all covered under warranty, so you avoid the inconvenience but you lose the pleasure of having the car 10-12 mos. I babied my 1998 Nissan, which, btw has a VQ engine. It still leaked oil (oil sender), the clutch still made a noise despite my gentle break-in, the manual tranny leaked through the reverse o-ring, the side air bags needed modules replaced under warranty, etc. The car was mfg. in 7/97--we know that cars mfg'd in say 2/98 didn't avoid the above issues, they also had them.
I guess what I'm saying is if you want the car, get it. I don't think imho that waiting 1/2 year is going to change anything. Heck, there are rumours that 335i's melted on the track, and several people are posting that their fuel pumps shut off disabling the vehicle. The 6-wk. wait for one hasn't changed. Live for today within reason!

(actually just tells you how much to add it needed, or if it is in the OK range)
.... I don't think the E90s have a dipstick either
