Ah - excellent point. I hadn't thought it through all the way to each design being capable of reaching the adhesion limit of the tire. Fair enough

Exactly - The function of bigger brake pads/rotors is purely for heat dissipation. They don't necessarily stop you faster in shorter distances. Stopping power (on the braking mechanism itself) is determined purely by the coeff of friction of the brake pads being used and F (force) of the clamps being applied. This of course doesn't take into account is the tires as Altersys has mentioned - which is the bigger factor in stopping. Bigger brake pads/rotors apply the same pressure - only over a larger surface area, so the only thing that changes is heat dissipation.

yep. that, and with the same master cylinder (and caliper design) it requires less effort at the pedal due to the greater mechanical advantage of a longer moment arm (due to bigger rotors).

personally i did NOT like that about the sport. i like having to apply a little more brake pressure at the pedal because i find it easier to modulate at the limit.

my acuras warped rotors to no end...... well, really only the TSX.... but it happened a few times and to my family's cars too (that were also TSX's)

here's to hoping for better metallurgical quality with nissan!

Many good points

I have to agree that larger rotors, assuming the numer of pistons in the calipers, and everything else being constant, the larger breaks will perform better at the track. Larger rotors, more area for heat to dissipate.

But as for daily use, I highly doubt there's any difference, except that the 13" rotors look better

.

Thanks for all your inputs. I'll be putting cross drilled rotors next time I change any of my car's rotors. Purely for looks reason.

This is true. i have owned 3 Nissan vehicles and all have had brake noises early. Also most of my friends who had Nissan's experienced the same problems. I already have some squeaks on my G and i have less than 10k on it

i just re-read the brochure and it says sport models get redesigned calipers and larger brake discs for improved stopping power.

though it doesnt say whether improved over the non sport or improved over the 1st gen

smart man!

i hate marketers..... spin **** whatever way they want, using the layperson's laziness against her/him. i guess it's what we deserve for being lazy, though... no?

as i keep saying, the sport brakes look cool, and seem cool on paper but are unnecessary in terms of fade resistance on the street, and since they don't improve stopping distance, are really just an aesthetic mod. i don't even think they feel as good, so there's nothing there either.

Are you saying that only the G35S has ABS?? I was under the impressions that all G35 models have ABS.
