I don't have the G since I'm waiting to trade in my 350Z for the '08 Coupe, but I'm just getting some ideas off the sedan.

Can someone take snapshots of the glovebox and take some measurements?

Attached is the computer I'm building. It's a 2GHz Turion MT-37, 1GB RAM, nForce4 mini-ITX, and it runs on Compact Flash using a SATA adapter. The soundcard will be a modded X-Fi Xtreme Audio with Burr Brown op amps (waiting for shipment). :-D

The case is just a prototype, but glows white with LEDs. The concept here is to have it light up when the glovebox is opened at night.

I am debating whether I should build a box and have it fit in the glovebox somehow, or literally mount the board and components on standoffs inside the glovebox.

this one is coooooooool , what about the sound sys is it that good coz i have the bmw 740il 2000 individual wow the sound so perfect with stuff like the home cenima e.g hall and party.

My only concern would be cooling and ventilation.

 

I briefly listened to the '07 sedan audio system. It did not impress me, so nothing really caught my attention. However, I must admit it is probably the best sounding OEM Blose system I've heard. My mom's '95 Legend has Bose, and my dad's '90 Z32TT is still running the factory Bose speakers (aftermarket HU and sub).

I am not looking forward to [paying for] the Studio On Wheels package, so I am opting for a plain Jane system instead. The problem here is that I will be missing the front center and rear deck mounted subwoofer. I want to remove the subwoofer and route the sub box port underneath the OEM sub grille. So... time to grab the dremel and start cutting! Hehe.

As for DSP effects, I'm not a fan of it. The only thing I would probably do is something 2ch audio purists dislike, and that is mirroring audio to all of the available channels when listening to music.

The glovebox is not entirely sealed, so it is still possible to circulate air. Any sort of air movement can make a big difference vs. having the components situated in an air-tight, sealed environment (obvious example).

Sooo.. back to pictures and measurements. Anyone?

 

As I understand it, the front 10" woofers are mounted in the doors, not on the top center of the dash. Therefore, if your plan is to install a front center subwoofer, I don't think any amt of dremeling will create sufficient space.

 

The front door panels on the bose-equipped cars have openings for 10" subs. I don't know if the non-bose (i.e. non-premium package) cars have the same door panels. If they do, then you could certainly put 8's if not 10's in the doors. BTW, none of the '07's have subs in the front dash. The bose has it in the front doors and rear deck, I believe.

Please let me know what you find out about the non-Bose front door panels. Thanks.

 

Seems pointless to design your computer around measurements taken from an '07 sedan, when we don't even know what the '08 coupe looks like inside, let alone what the glove compartment looks like.

Ha! I think you misunderstood me on this one. The center of the dash on Bose-equipped models come with a center channel. The rear center deck is for the center mount sub. Non-bose models don't have any of these, unless someone can prove me wrong. For the doors, it'll probably the typical 6.5" setup with craptastic tweeters.

They're woofers... just woofers. The sub is in the rear deck.

I notice much of the newer Nissan/Infiniti vehicles have larger glove boxes. Look at the new Altima and G, and then compare it with the previous generation. Look at the previous G sedan and current gen G coupe... the interior is pretty much the same.

I'm praying the G coupe sticks to simplicity and more raw "sporty" image; i.e., none of this iDrive stuff and fancy electronics. I'm peeved by the standard 7" ATM that displays everything... I prefer gauges.

Thanx for the props. I'll load pictures of the proto case glowing white at night when I get off work... it's pretty neat. It'll be improved with my next case design. That case was designed around micro-ATX board. The new case will be slightly shorter, and depth is cut down for the mini-ITX board. However, the width will be increased to take advantage of the wider glovebox compartment. I'll try to stay within my constraints so there's no wasted space.

Most important is X-FI + Burr Brown 2604 Op Amps... the software is giving me headaches. It's just pure bloat!

But could you fit 8's or 10's (just woofers) in the doors? Just curious what the door panel looks like in the non-Blose system. Thanks.

 

I doubt it because of mounting depth, and it is likely the mounting holes and speaker frame will be incompatible anyhow.

I'm pretty sure Bose will use a low profile woofer that's a couple inches deep despite the 10" diameter. That's what they do with their Nd Woofers. They're funky looking.

Anyhow, the standard audio system is a 6 speaker type. Like the current coupe and Z, it's 6.5" + tweeter in the front and 6.5" in rear (unless G uses 6x9s... I never researched this one, so someone can chime in).

Either way, I wouldn't mount a real subwoofer in the door. It won't sound right, and will rattle too much.
