1977 Chevy Chevette (hand-me down car): 1987-1988 On highway, going up big hills, would need to be at 70mph+ by the time I got to it in order to make up the hill at 55mph+ -- otherwise, the car would slow to 35mph by the time I got to the top. Also, the floor under the pedals rusted, so my feet would get wet when driving in rain or snow (like Fred Flintstone's car)
. Beater car, but as a 16 year old, I was just glad to have my own wheels!
1981 Chevy Citation (hand-me down #2): 1989-1992
1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo: 1992-1994: Great little car -- bought for $1900 with 40k miles on it, put 70k miles on it in 3 years, sold for $1400. 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo engine, but car was so light that it took off pretty well with he turbo! Pretty fun to drive, and 40mpg!
1994 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6: 1994-1995 Enjoyed it for 1 year, then had to sell b/c going back to graduate school
1987 Toyota Pickup 1996-1997: (bought for $1200, drove for 1 1/2 years, sold for $1800)
1994 Ford Explorer 1997-1999
1993 Geo Prism 1999-2008: we purchased it new in 1994 -- was my wife's car at first, then became my commuter vehicle after we had kids and it was more practical for her to have our Ford Explorer -- drove it from 1999 until this year. Great car -- only 1 repair issue (electrical) in 14 years
2008 Infiniti G35: 2008-??
I hope to drive this one for 10 years or more if it holds up!
Big time upgrade when I got the G!

2001.5 Audi S4 chipped with GIAC fast as hell and nice 18 psi of boost with twin turbos. Maintanence sucked its why I sold it my aftermarket warranty ran out and it had already spent over 16,000 dollars. The G is a reliabilty upgrade but power downgrade, but I am still happy with my choice.

The Chevy Sprint Turbo was the 1.0L 3 cylinder! I think it was just 80hp, but with the turbo boost and the lightness of the car, it could really take off when you punched it! And that little bugger got 40mpg! I moved from PA to FL while I had that car, and drove it many times from St. Petersburg, FL, to Philiadelphia, PA. On that trip of about 1200 miles, it only took me about 30 gallons of gas each way, which back at that time (1993-1994) only cost me $35 or so. Of course, given I was a $17k/yr private high school teacher then, so $35 was not a small sum to me

Nonetheless, now, $35 will get me 170 miles, which is what I drive in 5 days or so of usual commuting!

2000 Acura CL Type-S, 2002 Lexus ES, 2005 Acura TL, 2006 Mazda6 Grand Sport (don't ask why I went from an Acura to a Mazda, it's a long story), 2007 Infiniti G35X.
The G is the best car of the bunch in terms of style, performance and handling. The Lexus was the quality king, not a single stone chip anywhere after 3 years and 40,000 miles. The grill of my G35 has a zillion chips in the chrome and the hood has a half dozen after 20,000 miles! The Acura CL lost a transmission, the TL was the biggest overall disappointment, lots of little issues that caused me to hate the car in less than a year. The Mazda6 was the best bang for the buck because I bought it new at $9000 off MSRP but absolutely no prestige in owning a Mazda. None of the cars has made me passionate about driving as much as the G35. It was nice to own a Lexus but I always felt it wasn't a true Lexus, more like a glorified Camry. I liked the CL until the tranny crapped out. The Mazda never lived up to the expectations I had for it and it's depreciation is abysmal. Now that I am in an Infiniti I feel a strong sense of pride in owning a very unique car again.
Yea, it was an upgrade for sure.
