The factory is sending me the embroidered cover samples. As I suspected earlier and from the attached photo, I don’t think embroidery will work because the lines are too thin. I’m inclined to tell them to give up on this and to only proceed with silk screening. Comment welcomed.

If they can't turn down the stiching to a much smaller size than those samples, silk screening will be the only way to go. Doesn't your vendor have a computer controlled machine? The samples look like they were done by hand.

They were done by machine. The problem is doing it on neoprene. I've talked to a couple of other embroidery shops and all of them said no way when they saw the art file. All of them suggested silkscreening (kinda like on mousepads). I'm still waiting for those parts to arrive.

my mom owns an embroidery/t shirt shop and small designs like that have such small stich counts and there isnt enough room for the thread to fill in the area, so, your left with that jagged look like that. The silkscreening should do a better job... Cant wait to see the finished product!

I figured I would try to make some since there was a lot of interest and I had the resources.

The cover also kind of helps protect the intellegent key if/when you drop it. The intelligent keys are like $40-$50 on ebay and I don't even know how much the dealer charges to pair it up to your car.

It's also a customizing thing like on cell phones. If I sell off the first batch, and there is enough interest, I'll look into other colors to match the car's interior.

PLUS .. they are cheaper than bumper cover plugs!

Looks like http://www.thejacketstore.com only has "jackets" for G35 model year '03 to '06. I sent them email asking if/when they will support the '07.

These appear to be the same ones being sold on ebay. It looks like Infiniti used to use a regular remote alarm key with an “unusual” shape instead of an intelligent key with the oval shape.

I thought about doing the same thing for our intelligent key using Silicon, but after reading some of the comments and talking to ipod skin users, it seems everyone agrees that silicon is a lint magnet which will make the cover look and feel fuzzy and dirty. This made sense to me so I thought about other materials. After a little brain storming, it seemed the best choice is a snug fitting neoprene so that’s the way we went. BTW, thanks to everyone for their comments.

A few more negatives … the ones being sold on ebay and on the website are not shaped for the intelligent key which is oval shaped. They also do not have a cutout on the back to release the metal key for valet parking purposes (even though most of you don’t valet park). Finally, you will have to struggle to pull the key out of the silicon cover if you run out of power and need to stick it into the access port in the car.

I think I am biased toward the neoprene … enough so to front the money to have a small quantity made. So I figure even if I don’t get rid of all of them, at least the guys that want them are happy (and I’ll have a few spares).
