I don't know enough about tint jobs, but if it's cheap and the work gets done properly, I guess that's all that matters.
I guess if you want tint the portion of glass that is inside the door and can not be seen, the door panel has to come off. IMO, I don't think that makes much sense, but to each his own.

They did mine without pulling off the panels by sliding the tint film under the rubber. The finish looks very "factory".

Also ... I've writen this before ... the hardest glass to tint is the rear stationary quarters. That can ONLY be done by precision cutting because the glass is held by a rubber gasket. A bad tint job will show light coming around the film next to the gasket.

If you are in los angeles, go to 4th st and Western. There is a car wash there and the tint/stereo place is my friends shop. The will beat all these prices.

Ceramic tint: http://www.automalltintspecialist.com/270511.html

Hüper Optik Ceramic smart window films provide superior heat rejection without compromising visibility. The optical clarity is excellent and will not appear shiny due to its low reflectivity. It is guaranteed not to fade, turn purple or bubble for as long as you own your vehicle. Ceramic films will not interfer with your radio or cell phone reception, GPS navigation, satellite radio nor radar detectors. We offer Ceramic films in 30%, 40% and 50% visible light transmittance. This is the future of window tinting available here today at Auto Mall Tint Specialist.

SoCal tint quote

I need a sanity check.

I've been looking to get my 07IP tinted.

Mike's Tint Shop (In Orange and Riverside) wanted $450 for LLumar Platinum Plus. That's metallic film not ceramic. The girl behind the counter even told me that my radio reception will suffer a bit.

They did offer the following to go with the tint:

1. Shaved edges
2. Lifetime ticket warranty (If I got a ticket, they would remove the fronts then re-tint after I cleared the ticket)
3. Lifetime No fault warranty (If I scratched any window, they would remove and re-install a new piece)
4. One piece rear window

They have a pretty good reputation on some truck forums, but I just couldn't swallow that price...

Am I not factoring in the "extras"? or is it truly too steep?

I got all my windows done for 2 bills, but the guy comes out to your work and the tint's lifetime warranty. He does an excellent job which is why I've had him tint four of my previous cars. If anyone in socal is interested check out Advantage Tint. The guy's name was Jef Beckman I think.

BTW, what's the deal with everyone tinting their windshields? Isn't that like putting a cop magnet on your car?
