Envy those getting deals - none in Houston!

I envy all of you in other parts of the country who have dealerships who are negotiating on price. Here in Houston we have 4 dealerships. EVERY SINGLE ONE started talking about the price of the car even before I got that far. The interesting (annoying) part is that they all started with the exact same words -- "We are not negotiating the price... MSRP is what we sell them for." None of the dealers are 'sisters' in town so they are all doing this on their own accord. Here in Houston, it seems, there is no wheeling and dealing. They have basically all said to me "if you don't want to pay MSRP, we don't want your business."

I have heard one dealership up in Dallas (5 hrs away) is dealing a little. I don't mind getting my car from there if that is what it takes. I'm sure as hell not paying MSRP though when I hear about people getting $700 - $1500 over invoice in the northeast and California!!!!

Anyone here from Louisianna - they dealing there?? New Orleans, Lafayette, and Shreveport are close enough for me to consider purchasing there. Hell, it might actually be cheaper for me to drive to the northeast, get a car there for a good deal, and drive it back down!!

There is one local dealer in this area and they are fairly small(maybe 20 new cars on the lot on a good day) and they would not offer anything off MSRP either.

An hour? Is that considered far? <LOL> Here in Houston, an hour gets me..... downtown (40 min with no traffic on the road)!! 3 of the 4 dealerships I was talking about above are at least an hour away... but they are all considered in "Houston". If I could only drive an hour to get a good price, I'd be extremely happy!

I guess that's how things are in here - everything's bigger in Texas.

The best we could get here in Dallas is VPP rate for a G35 6mt fully loaded with every package except nav: ~$36k

Give Austin Infiniti a call. I have no idea if they'll deal, but they're only 3 hours away from you.

-By the way. Do not believe their online inventory, it's all wrong.

I ordered from Austin Infiniti and they don't seem to be moving far from MSRP. I did have a lot of luck negotiating on my trade. So if you've got a trade you may be better off negotiating hard on that. I'd spend an hour at Carmax to get a baseline negotiating number.

Also I emailed Shealea Greer at AI and did most of the negotiating over email.

Good luck!

I bought an 07G Sedan two weeks ago here in Houston. I was able to get a little off MSRP by being persistent. I ended up buying from North Houston Infiniti. My understanding is that Southwest and Gulf Coast are owned by the same company.

Don't give in and don't pay MSRP, order your car from another dealer out of state if that is what you have to do. Everyone I know waits for a TV to go on sell, buys meat when the price is good, and generally won't pay MSRP for anything. Why would you a car that costs tens of thousands more than your everyday purchases? Would you pay MSRP for your new house or would you try and get a deal? Remember these things when you get frustrated and tempted to take what some scumbag dealer offers.

I got a slight discount off MSRP at Austin Infiniti, but wasn't negotating by comparing them to other Infiniti dealers, I was comparing their pricing against the incredible leasing deals that BMW was offering.

I don't think most dealers take people too seriously who talk about going out of state to get a better price. I'd rather pay an extra $500 or even $1000 to buy from the dealer I'm going to have to interact with for the next 4 or 5 years instead of taking all the time and effort to take a trip out of state and deal with re-registering the car in Texas and dealing with the sales taxes directly, etc (actually, I'm not sure how that all works, but it's got to be a bitch)

Of course, I'm coming from the perspective of being THRILLED to pay "only" MSRP for the BMW M5 I got in late 1999 (the first one in Austin) that I had put a deposit down on nearly two years earlier. People on the coasts were paying $10k to $20k over sticker for those cars for the first 2 years they were shipping.

I guess my point is that I think the G35 is a steal, even at full MSRP, compared to the other cars out there. (I also think that a lot of people exaggerate the discounts they got when they post on the Internet.)
