My biggest wish - A stripped down G Sport

This is how I'd like my future g35 to be:

Manual Tranny
lower weight
No Navigation - plain DIN sized stereo
Basic climate control
No sunroof.
No cup holders (ok maybe one for the passenger)
No bluetooth, trip computer, etc.
Really light seats
lower weight

Basically I'd like a performance version without the engine or suspension being modified. All they need to do is lower the weight. Take out all that luxury stuff. I wonder how much weight they could save by just cutting out a lot of that luxo crap.

I just want a car that I can drive, enjoy driving, without all the fluff. I suppose a big man's Lotus Elise, but not so flashy.

The above would be really nice, and seriously the whole Nav system and video screen is one of the biggest turn offs for me.

And I kinda believe a lot of the 6MT buyers out there would appreciate and want something like the above.

Then get a 350z, its a lighter and has less luxury options. But the G35 is a sport luxury sedan, I wouldn't have bought one if it didn't have a lot of the things you mention(and I suspect other's here feel the same or they would have bought the 350)

The vehicle you describe sounds more like a two seater sports car than a 4 door luxury sports sedan.

Completely agree - there are plenty of cars out there - the 350 included - that will fit the bill for what you are looking for. The G35 sedan is made for a certain niche of people. What you want is like asking BMW or Mercedes to take their 7-series / S-Class vehicles and totally strip them down so that you can have the space of a big car with a decent engine but not all the "luxo crap"

If you want a basic sports car - that has 4 doors... then get an BMW M5. But, of course, you'll pay a hefty price for that.

Sounds like you're in the market for a Neon SRT...

LOL!! Actually, the G35 S you speak of IS the 'performance version' that you speak of. It just so happens to come with all the luxury amenities as a bonus!

I was thinking about this a bit as I was driving to work this morning, and thought about the lotus elise(one of my friends has one, and I came really close to purchasing one myself last summer) and that car is bare bones... Floor mats are an option, as are power windows, with out those options you have crank window's and an exposed metal floor. In other words that car is bare bones and most people don't want that - look at all other "sports" cars, they have comfort and convenience options that the masses want.

As others have said.. buy another car. Many of the features in the G35 are not creating weight. Bluetooth, trip computer, memory seats, etc.. is just a chip. The cars weight is really pretty good already for its size. Aluminum hood and lightweight suspension components make a nice difference. Not much difference in weight between the manual and the auto either. Better off looking elsewhere..

New G35 Sedan "S" = approx 40k

E39 M5 = approx 40k

Problem solved.

OK, I admit that I don't like the standard screen either. It just seems to me like something else to break.

But otherwise, I might point out that the car IS available without a sunroof, Bluetooth, and navigation, if you get a Sport 6MT with no options.

Quick note: the M5 is not basic by any means. The last generation was pretty much loaded with equipment, and the new one has even more.........
