H&R springs - stock shocks ok?

I saw Hikos_G and Railgunner have the H&R springs. Did you guys have to upgrade your shocks too or are you just running the stock shocks (and if so, how are they holding up)? Also if anyone else has H&Rs, did you have to use a camber kit (I saw Hikos_G say he didn't need it). This would be my first time ever lowering a car.

Stock shocks should work fine.

On H&Rs, the front of the car will have a slight negative camber. I'd say the back is also at the limit for adjustment. Railgunner reported that he is slightly negative in back.

The Eibach set up will be similar, with maybe even more negative up front.

Seems like the 07 required more drop than the 06.

As for camber kits ... you'll have to decide. Some folks like a little neg camber for better handling, but the cost will be slightly uneven tire wear. The cost for the kits installed are not cheap either.

Should a simple $20 camber bolt work, too? I had Ingalls camber bolts (+/- 1 degree) for my previous car and they worked fine.

Thanks Terry. Weren't you Mr. Eibach R&D? How bad do you think the negative camber up front will be? Just wondering how much earlier the tires will have to be replaced.

If it works, I'd go for it. I think the kits are usually used for extreme drops anyway or for adjustibility if the car is being tracked.

How about posting up some info on the bolts?

Yes, but they still don't have my front springs ready yet, so the story will continue.

It seems the difference in drop height between H&R published drop (1.3fr / 1.2rr) and Eibach drop (1.4fr / 1.3rr) is actually VERY close ... less than 1/8" on each end. BUT ... I don't recall anyone taking actual before and after measurements after installing H&Rs to confirm the published numbers.

I've also read rumors about H&R doing a little re-design. Perhaps others can comment on this.

As for camber, I believe both Hikos_G and Railgunner are both slightly negative from spec up front so I'm pretty sure I'll be joining that party. I thought Hiko_G was in spec on back, but both Railgunner and I are slightly negative on back.

In all cases ... I 'm guessing the camber is tolerable and that tire wear will be only SLIGHTLY accelerated. I've been watching my back tires for how they are wearing and to be honest, they look pretty good. It would be great if Railgunner and Hikos_G could comment on their wear pattern.

EDIT: Forgot to add that H&R is currently publishing the same drop with the same part number for both 2006 and 2007. We all know the 07 is heavier so the drops should theoretically not be the same as published.

No wear issues here, but it's really too soon to tell.

Keep in mind that while the camber may be slightly out of spec, the car manufacturer decides what's in and out of spec, not the tire makers.
Look at a BMW M3 from the rear sometime. BMW says that camber is "in spec" but it's way more neg camber than our lowered G35's that Infiniti considers slightly out of spec.

I ran an E34 M5 for years with -1.5deg rear camber and the tires always wore evenly (albeit quickly with my lead-footed style). The key to tire wear on the RWD BMW is toe-in accuracy - I would expect the same from the G.

Cheers,

Negative camber is cool.

You'll score mad points with the ricers and drifters.
