Here you go...the RL is a great car. SH-AWD is really awesome.

G35: RWD
TL TYPE S: FWD

G35: Made in Japan
TL TYPE S: Made in USA

G35: 306hp
TL TYPE S: 286hp

Those are some objective things we need to look at. I wouldn't even consider TL TYPE S as a sports sedan due to its FWD platform. The only good 4 door entry-level luxury sports sedan are BMW 335i/328i, Lexus IS350/IS250, and Infiniti G35 sedan, that's all. The rest are all bull****.

other way around actually. the TL & RL redesigns came first.

with that having been said, allow me to introduce myself. i am currently the owner of an 02 TL type-S looking to come over to the G35x side this summer. i've been lurking here on the board for a little while to get a flavor for what to expect.

i love my tl and the fact that it goes anywhere in the snow (calling out is not an option in my job, and given my location in the northeast i can't take a chance with a RWD car, maybe in the future though i'll be content having one for summer fun). i also shouldn't neglect to mention how much i enjoy my 31mpg on the highway....

BUT.....when i took a long hard look and compared the '07 TL-S to the '07 G35x i simply could not ignore the fact that i would be paying nearly the same for an acura that is not as well equipped, nor as powerful.

now there are other pros and cons of course. when you look at the G35 many argue that the TL interior is better (haven't been in the '07 type-s myself so i couldn't say). the VQ is known for it's oil consumption issues and lack of gas conservation, etc. when you look at the TL many people (acura owners included) feel acura is too far behind the pack, there is still a stigma from the transmission debacle related to the 2nd gen TL transmissions, there are some known suspension issues with the '07 type-s models allready, etc.

alot of things to consider here. i would say though that overall reliability should not be a concern. the TL J32/J35 engines have a great reliability track record and so does the nissan VQ35 engine (aside from the major issues that a percentage of people have encountered).

i plan on going to the G35x myself. not because i'm not happy with my TL (because i definitely am), but because i just want the most i can get for my dollar. i hope this helps a little.

Bob

Nice write-up Bob.
I think the test drive usually closes the deal for the G.
That, and the balance of price/features/styling.

And here's a premature "WELCOME" to our forum!!!

thanks G-Whizzer! hopefully i'll be riding in my "x" by June (i'm planning on buying the car as a birthday present for myself then).

i would imagine the test drive is definitely the tie-breaker. i love acura, and couldn't be happier with my car at 102k miles, but sometimes you just gotta step up to something a little classier.....and faster.....

Remmy, welcome to the forum. Are you a member over at Acurazine as well? I post there somewhat frequently. The TL is a fantastic car, I personally like it alot. With what the G offers for the price, it's hard not to consider though.

i sure am sir! you can find me under the handle SatinSilverTypS in the 2nd gen forums.

i personally think that the 2nd gen tl with the OEM body kit is still a good looking car when compared to others today and admittedly the pre-07 G35 did not float my boat when it came to looks, but i am *really* digging the refresh. much more so than the current tl's body design. not to mention my fiance happens to hate the 3rd gen tl body, which pretty much means i'm not allowed to like it either

my only complaint is that the closest infiniti dealer is 55 miles away (Ramsey Inifiniti in NJ). it's just going to make it a bit of a hassle when it comes time for any service, although i'm sure it could always be worse!

If there is an Nissan dealership closer to you, they can perform all regular maintenence but you'll need to go to Infiniti for warranty repairs.

Good stuff. I use the same screen name over there as well, but usually only post in their Car Chat section.

Although your closest dealership is 55 miles away, don't let that stop you from getting the 07 Sedan if that is what you want. Think of it as a 110 mile excuse to drive your G. Heck, my closest dealership is an 8 hour return trip.

thanks for the tip. the nissan dealership is maybe 20 milnutes from me, so that could be pretty convenient.

do you guys get loaners for service work or just warranty work?
