Nissan updated the VQ line for 2007. The 3.5 L VQ35HR (for "high revolution" or "high response"). It produces 315 PS @6800 rpm and 358 nm @4800 rpm and compression ratio is 10.6:1. It has continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) with hydraulic on intake cam and electromagnetic on exhaust cam and double overhead cam (DOHC) and 4 valves per cylinder with microfinished camshafts. Redline is 7500 rpm. The intake is a high-flow tuned induction system. It has NDIS (Nissan direct ignition system).
It is used in the following:
* 2007- Infiniti G35 sedan (The G35 Coupe will keep the current VQ35DE engine for the 2007 model year.)
* 2007- Nissan Skyline V36 (sedan)
* 2007- Nissan 350Z

Haha, I knew it. I can't believe I didn't notice that.
If Nissan took the time to add direct injection to the VQ we'd probably not only see 15 more hp/tq, but probably 4-5 more mpg; but the R&D cost to do that probably isn't worth it to them since the engine is relatively strong without it, and they are continuing their heavy cost savings push.

The 3.7 is just an option.
It just wouldnt make any sense for Nissan to drop the VQ35HR.
The G35 is out there to compete with the 328i, atleast pricewise.
The G37 is out there to compete with the 335i, in both performance and price, although I'm sure its still going to be priced siginificantly lower than the 335i.

I said the same thing a long time ago. I figured the coupe would come out with two variants. A 3.5 L engine and a 3.7L engine, but...the only way this would work is if the the power has been upped signfinicantly from the 3.5L to 3.7L. I just don't know that can happen. Boring out .2 liters gives you what, 20, maybe 25 hp? I don't think that is a enough of a difference to justify two variants. So yes, I've changed my tune after gathering a little more info.

That would be sick. I sure enjoy my almost 500 crank hp TT G. It shocks people every day.
it is quite possible next years g sedan will be a 3.7L engine.
Have you noticed on their commercials they now just say the "G" as opposed to "G35" in older commercials.
I am certain they will make a g37 sedan and the current 2007 engine will be used in nissan line up, as most use the 3.5L engine

I can't help but think Infiniti is going to stick that 3.7L into the sedan ASAP to compete with the 335i and IS350 acceleration times. Not like it costs more to make... and if they'd just give it DI, it would actually make a lot more HP than the 3.5HR and have better gas mileage to boot. Hmph! Win-win.

It was confirmed that the new coupe will indeed have a VQ37.
I'm seriously pissed right now. I told Cheryl not to sell her car, because I was pretty confident the 3.5 HR would be like the revup, a one or two year motor.
If we get any confirmation that the 08 sedan will have the 3.7 before May, then I'll try to convince her to cancel her order and order an 08 instead.

As others have pointed out, the 330i was replaced by the 335i after only 1 year. Lexus replaced the GS300 with the GS350 after only 1 yr also. For the Maxima, Nissan went from the 190hp VQ30 in 1999 to 222hp VQ30 in 2000 to 227hp VQ30 in 2001 to 255hp VQ35 in 2002.
So, there has been precedence set in the past by various mfgs for changing their engines after only 1 model year and it wouldn't be too surprising for Infiniti to go to all 3.7L motors for their V6 equipped cars next year.
Personally, I hope Nissan goes all 3.7L motors in the Infiniti line for 2008+ VQ equipped cars and keep the 3.5L motor for the Nissans (GTR excluded, of course). This would help differentiate the performance between the upscale brand and standard Nissan brand.
With respect to aftermarket performance parts, I'm sure things like headers, intake, turbo and supercharger kits, etc. would all be interchangeable between the 3.5L and 3.7L motors, or would only require minor modifications to be adapted from one motor to the other.
