My guess is that it will stay as a 3.5 untill midcycle.
They just developed the new 3.5.... they aren't going to replace it too soon.

It's kind of strange that the coupe went right past the VQ35HR altogether. If they were developing the 3.7 anyway, then why didn't the '07 sedan get that engine? Just a little weird to me.

meh i wouldn't be surprised if the 2nd or 3rd model year of the 2nd gen sedan has the new 3.7L engine. i suspect it's the vq35hr, just bored out.

I suspect market research has shown that a little separation from the sedan will help the coupe.

The sedan will need something special after the Lexus IS-F comes out. Maybe a G50?

I personally think Infiniti screwed the pooch, and owners, on this one. One reason the first gen sedan has such an enthusiast following is it's commonality with the coupe and the z. Without it, the aftermarket would not be nearly the same size as it is today.

It's a no-win situation now for the sedan guys. If the 3.5 HR is a one-year engine for the sedan, is anyone going to develop aftermarket go-fast parts for it? I know the 3.5 HR is in the 07 z, and that may help, a little, if it stays there. But I can't see that happening if the coupe has the 3.7. On the other hand, if the sedan keeps the 3.5, many of the performance-oriented enthusiasts will simply dismiss it. I know I would, especially considering the potentially diminished aftermarket support.

I agree. Our only hope for any aftermarket mods is that the ONLY difference is in displacement. Hopefully everything else will be the same.

Like someone here said. I believe it was meant to create a separation between the sedan, and the sport coupe. After all, a sportier 2-door might as well have a little "heavier" engine. I doubt they will develop a whole new engine in a year to replace the newly redesigned HR VQ36. Maybe on the next round - somewhere around 2009-2010.

jmo.

But the G won't compete with the upcoming IS-F. Isn't the IS-F supposed to be priced close to $60k?

I agree that the G won't compete directly with the IS-F, but I look at the IS-F to the IS-350 as the Cobra was to the Mustang. Ultra high-end.

I just saw this on Autoblog. Maybe a IS-F tamer!

GT-R is to the G35 like the IS-F is to the IS350 and the Supra will be to the yaris.
