Actually it means the G35 has good gas milage, and other cars with less HP i.e. a Toyota Camry have better gas milage. ****ty gas milage is for anything with a Hemi which averages in the single digits. or crazy large SUV's.

Why does anyone think this car is supposed to get you 30 mpg????????? who told you that or where did you read that? and why don't you beleive the window sticker? did you expect better gas milage then what's on the EPA estimates?

The car gets at best 26mpg depending on driving conditions, did you read the sticker? And under fairly spirited driving you'll get 16-19 which again is the mpg stated on the window sticker. If your really a lead foot and give it too much gas/slam brakes/gas/brakes/gas brakes. then yeah, you'll drop to 12-15 but driving like in idiot would do that, you might as well drive two-foot style like grandma and most Volvo drivers so you go through a set of brake pads in about 10K miles.

Stop saying the car gets bad gas mileage, it doesn't !! It get rather excellent gas mileage considering the HP/TQ, car weight, tranny performance and displacement of the engine.

 

Coming from a V8 in my '04 GTO, I was surprised to see how high the G revs. In top gear at 70mph I think it was at 3k RPM's. No wonder the mileage isn't that spectacular. On our drive home I was waiting for it to shift 1 more time, but that was it. If a tall 6th gear had been added, I'm sure it would have done some good at least for hiway mileage. I know the redline isn't until close to 7000 so it has plenty of room to rev, but I was used to 70mph at about 2000 RPM's. Just my thoughts.

12K miles and averaging 16.2MPG. About 60% city, 40% highway driving. Gas mileage sucks but oh well.

 

I came from a Z06 which has 2 overdrive gears... HWY crusising @ 70 is about 1900 rpms. But thats with a OHV engine which has its power down low.
I now cruise at 3000 rpms at 72 which I thought was high.. but after a few long trips... you begin to understand that this DOHC engine is always sitting near its peak powerband and is cruising along effortlessly with minimal throttle.
I doubt the mileage would change much if at all with lower rpms.. cause then you would have to add more throttle to keep it going.
CAFE standards make it tough on manufacturers.. They do whatever they can to get the best mileage..

 

I took a trip across CT this morning, 74 miles, from the point I pulled out of the gas station to arrival, was about 80% hwy with a few slow downs and 20% city and a few traffic lights. I set the radar cruise for the entire duration of the hwy portion. across the 74 miles I averaged 26MPG. the ICC really does know the optimal spot for the gas pedal and does a great job of not braking or applying too much gas, i.e. when someone cuts between me and the car in front of me, the system doesn't freak out, it just eases off the gas and engine brakes until it's back to it's set distance. And for a few miles I was behind this hick-up truck that couldn't maintain it's speed, 80-70-85-75-65-85-70, a one-man slinky. I set it to the furthest distance and the ICC evened it out for me, the distance between us would change but my MPH only fluctuated by +/- 5 MPH. finally was able to pass the idiot about 5 miles down the road.

The ICC system is fantastic if your willing to relinquish a little of the control feeling. I'm having a hard time figuring out where to put my right foot

 

damnit... i'm regretting not paying the $2k for the Nav to get the tech package...grrrrr

 

my silverado 2500 4x4 gets about 10 miles per gallon this is an economy car

Mine is 13.4 mpg...and that's about where it's been since I bought it and I've reset it a couple of times too...

I guess that shows how a 21 year old drives versus all you old folk. ahaha.

 

This is a little confusing to me. I used to have a first year 350z and it was literally getting 30+ with all highway driving (this was with just an intake and pulley's) and around 25-27 with a mix of hwy and city.

My wife NEVER EVER gets on it, and she drives 90% hwy and maxes at around 22mpg in the 06 G35 with 4k miles on it.

So yes, I would expect this car to do better considering is the same engine as the Z was. Is it just the intake and pulleys that made up for ALL THAT? I doubt it since I got nearly that mpg before the install.

Shoot me twin turbo 335i isnt even broken in and is pulling 28mpg on the hwy.

 

Whats the weight difference between the Z and the G.

My Z06 used to get 17mpg city and 29 hwy.. and thats with big right foot...

 

22-24mpg highway. typical speed - 65-85

Not bad considering the rep of this car.

City driving - 16-18 mpg

 

17.8 mpg over the life of the car. I'm a leadfoot though. Probably 50/50 city/hgwy and usually doing 80-90 on highway.

 

If I remember correctly, about 400lbs. Regardless, if your driving all highway the weight shouldnt make "that" much difference. Once you get your mass up to speed it doesnt take much to maintain a speed.
