All - The easiest way to gauge the mileage is to drive while your Fuel Maintenance is showing (think that's what it's called). I've noticed a significant increase in my gas mileage when I use this feature. My mileage now ranges from 20-25mpg highway. I will post a report shortly that outlines monthly costs, at least mine. I’ve been keeping receipts from day one.

Test drove the new 335i and tested the MPG via onboard computer 20.ish while romping around town and 30.ish on the highway at 70-80...

my G gets
12 while romping,
around town 15-16 while being gentle,
22 on highway.

uh WTF

yeah yeah i know it wasnt an accurate test but its the closest thing i had to compare and even at that it was a major increase !?!?!

ppp

I just drove about 200 miles all highway, and I got 23.8 mpg. I didn't use my cruise control though. From my past experience with previous cars, using cruise control helps improve mileage, since cruise control tends to keep the car cruising at a consistent speed, thereby avoiding the sudden slow downs and speed ups that consume more fuel.

I've been seeing mpg numbers from the low teens to the high teens on my surface street driving. I took a drive to LA (freeways) for the first time today and my mileage was 25-26 mpg. Not bad.

Obviously this 306 hp car won't get great gas mileage, but did anybody really buy this car because of the economical gas mileage?

I can't wait until my break-in period is over....

I have just shy of 45,000 miles on my car and I've only broken 20 mpg ONCE! That was coming back from NC to DC with no AC, and babying the crap out of the car...I got 21 mpg that tank. Coincidentally, that was coming back from a trip after getting a ticket for going 89 in 70 on the way down...court is tomorrow!

I've had horrible gas mileage on this car since day 1; I'll admit that I don't baby it all the time but I don't dog it either. I've had all sorts of problems with it, and Infiniti service (even corporate) has been horrible; I should have known after the service I got on my 2000 Pathfinder not to buy another Nissan product...I do love the looks and drive of my 04 G though when it's not giving me problems, but it is getting traded in this summer.

Whoa. I looked at your post and thought "Man, you drive a lot". Then I saw that you have an 04.

I skimmed through the thread pretty quickly so perhaps it has already been mentioned but there seemed to be a big improvement in the first few weeks itself. I got my car about 6-7 weeks ago and it has about 1300 kms (~800 mi) and my L/100 km number has gone down from 17.7 to 14.1 so far. I use Shell V-Power fuel and drive about 70/30 city/hwy ratio.

The number of 14.1 converts to ~17 MPG. If it can get to ~20 MPG or about 11.5 L/100 km, I will be quite happy. Any drivers able to comment on their early experience?

I have an 07 G35x with about 6,500 km - 2 months old...My L/100 km was around 14 - 15 early on, but lately it's around 12. I don't baby it, but I'm 85% highway. Still hopin' it gets better... (my last car was a 97 Altima).

Here's the answer

Want to know why some people get 15 mpg on the highway, while others get 26 mpg? A lot of it is just related to the speed you are traveling. Traveling along at 80 mph will get you significantly worse mpg than traveling at 60 mph. There's an ideal speed to travel at as far as fuel efficiency is concerned, which is usually around 60 mph. Every increment above that speed will decrease your fuel efficiency.

Of course rapid acceleration runs will also reduce fuel efficiency, but I'm sure you guys already knew that

I'm averaging 18-19 mpg with an average speed of 30-32 mph @ 2K miles. I have only used Shell 93 octane. I do about 60% highway 40% stop and go. I live in Houston so my A/C runs almost all the time. I think average speed is important to quantify mpg numbers. My gas mileage is not great, but better than my V8 that got 14.5 mpg. I would be thrilled with anything over 20mpg.

I upgraded to a G35 on a rental car last week and the average MPG was between 16 and 17.

I don't know about the others that drove this car, but i drove the **** out of that thing, as one should do with a rental G35. I had seen them on the road and thought they looked pretty nice, but this thing was quick, even with an auto.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience. I would definitely recommend anyone looking to buy a G35 to spend a few bucks and rent one for the day and get a feel for it without a sales person in the car. I fell in love with this car and I am looking to buy a G35s in a few months.

I'm glad I can average over 20mpg on the highway (22-25, depending on speed, wind speed/direction, etc), since I plan a road trip in June that will probably be 2000-3000 miles.

Last fill-up was 22.4 mpg. That is all local driving.. mostly city and some heavy foot fun times. Mileage has improved with time..
