Am I pretty much hosed?

I created another post several weeks ago when I had to take my brand new G into the shop after driving it for only 3 days: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08/146119-3-days-later.html

Well after 4 weeks the service department has finally discovered (hopefully) what the problem is (with help from their national tech people). He said that a wiring harness had been pulled too tightly through the firewall at the factory and had stretched to the point where it was causing an intermittent short. He said that they are going to replace the main engine wiring harness as well as the interior wiring harness as soon as the parts come in and that hopefully they would be done on Friday.

As annoying as it has been waiting this long to get my brand new car fixed, I could live with it if I knew that the car I am getting back would still be in good shape. The problem I have is that the amount of work they have done, plus the amount of work that is necessary to replace those harnesses means that I probably will not be getting a "new" car back. I am really worried that the interior panels and parts that must be removed to do something like this aren't going to fit together the same way....and I am going to have a rattley, creaky mess.

Does anyone have any experience with these kinds of things? Am I worrying too much about it?

Not at all - your worries are justified for sure.
Sounds like a big messy job to replace these .... it shouldn't be something that you should have to put up with on a brand new car. I would be furious - you show a lot of restraint !

Sorry - I can't really help with experience - but I wouldn't be surprised to get a few rattles (probably not a creaky mess as you put it .... I think they will do a pretty good job - but some rattles are inevitable if they pull out enough panels.)

Is the dealer nice to deal with ?? Can you ask them nicely about buying back your car and let you take an equivalent car off the lot ?? (maybe with a very small $$ loss)

Does the lemon law apply for your state?
For my state (IL) "30 business days out of service" will qualify for a Lemon,
in your case your will get a new car.

we've had a comparable problem with one of ours murano forum members when the person went in for his first oil change and somehow the tech forgot to put oil back into the engine and the car was driven for a period of time eseentially with dry internals. this happened about 3 weeks ago and surprisingly out of this mess, the owner is receiving a BRAND NEW murano as a replacement for his.i'd fight and try and get yourself into a new car. or at least have your warranty extended.

While it is not apple to apples comparsion...I had the situation where my old G had a mouse get into the back of the car and chew a wire under the back seat. Car would not start and was towed in. The exposed wire caused a short that in turn fried the engine computer. BUT for the dealer to figure this out, it took over 7 weeks and a new computer. The way it was described to me was that in a warranty situation, the dealer has to follow Infiniti's prescribed authorization and that is for trying one item at a time looking to diagnose a problem. Example being that the dealer had to go through steps a, b c etc. even if the problem was to be located in step j. This drove me crazy for long this took to figure it out.

But to your question, the dealer did an excellent job of repairing and replacing parts and items that were removed and/or moved in the whole process. I was just as concerned about what car I was getting back and mine was not new: It had 35,000 miles on it at the time. From that point on, I did not have one single problem with the car or the repair work that was done. I drove the car another 25,000 miles before I traded it in on my new G last month.

Would I want to live with my new car being taken apart when it was only in your possesion for a few days...NO! I would bang on them to pay for payments that you had to make while you were w/o your car ..at the least.
BUT I think that in my situation that the dealer did a very good job effecting a repair and not returning my car as a rattle trap.

Best of luck with it!

No use worrying until you get the car back.

CardsDG6MT: Good thing they considered that a warranty repair. Sounds like that mouse would have cost you a lot of money otherwise.
