auto trans downshifting too much

When accelerating from 60mph to about 75 mph the transmission downshifts from 5th all the way down to 3rd gear.

I can understand the downshifting if I was flooring the car, but I am just depressing the gas pedal 50%.

What usually happens is the car will start accelerate at a rate that I am happy with. Then all of the sudden it will downshift to 3rd gear. The engine roars and because its in 3rd gear the car gets really torquey.

I would think that staying in 5th gear or even downshifting to 4th would be fine. But 3rd gear is a bit much for the amount of acceleration I need.

I now drive mostly in M mode because of this.

Has anyone notice this and find it annoying?

Use manual shift.
Down shift it to 4th, gain your speed and shift it back to 5th again.

Simple.

To answer his question though, yes.. I have noticed it as well, and use the M mode more because of this.
It's nothing more than the car wanting to be driven hard.
It's doing 60, give it a very little gas and the car yells "YIPPEEEEEeeeeee"

Can't wait till 1200

I am at 700 miles, and have not had this happen. However, I am always stuck in traffic

Interesting, I've never had this happen if I recall correctly.

I've had this happen, but only when I'm in DS mode. That mode just wants to dance! And if you've been driving hard for a while it has learned you want to tango as well. OR, if you are in a turn or on an on/off ramp, the vehicle senses the dynamics and will hold gears or shift gears according to its mind-reading logic.

Most of the time it's right on and very intuitive....the odd time it guesses wrong...but it's a 'fun' guess.

I've noted that in 'normal' auto mode, it seems to be quite opposite...almost a little too languid in its shifting if you're not riding it hard.

That's because you don't drive it like you stole it.

Mine too (hey, where's the paddles smiley??).

I haven't noticed this particular habit because I'm rarely out of manual mode, but in DS the car is even more aggressive than I am. So not surprising it decides to GO.

D would probably be more sedate.

im my 07x, it downshifts a little earlier than i want since i am driving around in traffic around 40-50 mph. when im driving around in D mode, often the car downshifts when i dont want it to. its no big deal, just a little annoying.
