Music Box - Moods and Categories

I have only had the car for a couple of days, so perhaps I'm missing it. But... I can not figure out the music box Categories (Hits, Kids Favorites...) There does not seem to be anything I can change (edit song, edit album, etc) that makes a track play by selecting these categories. Heck, even setting a song and album to CHILDRENS does not allow play via the Kids Favorites category. Any suggestions, I searched the treads but did not come up with any help.

I don't know the answers to your questions because I don't pick up my G until tomorrow but you may want to check the audio section of this thread. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the link to the thread. Unfortunately it does not touch on my question. My dealer (Infiniti of Thousand Oaks, CA) says they send out a "concierge" within two weeks of the sale to answer any questions you have about the car. This goes on my list.

I think it reads it off the metadata.

as far as moods go, nothing I've put in the music box has automaticallyassigned moods to the tracks. It looks like you have to go through manually track by track and assign them.

From my understanding, this is what happens when you rip music from a CD to your car:

Tracks are indentified on the CD when inserted using the built-in Gracenote database, and assigned tags depending on what the gracenote database has on file. The method of recognition I'm not sure on, they do have a digital recognition API out there that iTunes can use... but odds are it's track length, and various other variables.

The long and the short of it is, there's no way to change it.

Yes, only with NAV.

It works very well and I'm glad I have it. The ripping from CD works better than expected (since you get to listen to it while it rips). But... I really feel they missed out on giving you some of the true potentail. Let's forget about transfer MP3's for a moment. The feature of Moods and Categories could be excellent if it was customizable or replaced by play lists (which is essentially what it is). I would LOVE to be able to make custom play lists, and all the technology is already on the device.

Just my thoughts.

OK, you can edit each track. I'll have to go down to the car to write down HOW to do this as I ran across it on accident looking for something else. I know if you go into the menu while in the music box then it will (if you are stopped) give you the option to search albums, artists, etc. I think it is from there that you can get to the edit function but don't hold me to that until I can double check. lol
