Its been a short stay and I loved it...but its time to say goodbye

Yesterday I made an extremly spontanious deceision. I have actually been saying this to myself for the past month or so, but out of nowhere yesterday I went and did it. I went and traded in my 5 month old,24 month lease, fully loaded 07 G35S 6mt with fujita intake and 20 inch rims (keeping both of those), for a 2005 Honda Accord EX-L 4 CYL with 9,000 miles in mint condition.

I know rite now everyone is scratching there heads or calling me an idiot. But theres a big reason for this. I'm only 23 years old, and make a very good income especially for my age. I have owned about 15 cars now, 3 of which were brand new. Within the past 2 years I had an 05 Maxima, an 06 g35 coupe, and then my 07 sedan. Complete waste of money at this point in my life.

The car was costing me around $1000 per month after lease payment, insurence, and I payed $150 to park it so it wouldnt be on the street. I didnt do this because I couldnt afford the car. I did this because I need to get my priorties straight. I want to buy my own hosue within 2-3 years, and the only way im going to be able to pull that off is by sacraficing now. In probably much less then 2-3 years im going to have a much better position at my job, so it will be even easier for me to pull this off. Once I get myself back into the car game, I am definatly getting something thats going to be ridiculous, like way beyond what im at now.

I ended up getting out of my lease with only $1733 negitive equity, which I just rolled on the finance of the 05 accord. The car is costing me $360 a month with absolute zero out of pocket and an extended warranty. I will also park this car on the street, so i save there as well and on insurence. I will especially save at the pump lol.

I will say this though. Even though I know I made the rite smart deceision...yesterday and today I was actually a little sick to my stomach how much I miss my G. I really loved that car.

Its been great fellas, I'll always be reading to see what comes up for everyone and the G's.

Rocco.

Rocco, Best of luck and it sounds like you made the right financial decision. If your professional outlook is bright, you ought to consult a financial advisor. He/she can help guide you in the right direction so you're able to realize your goals faster. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, but I think it'd be a very good thing for you to pursue. Good luck!

my G35 is only costing ~350 a month after financing... but my brother has the 05 accord 4cyl with leather... not a bad car, the brakes are really sensitive, probably as sensitive as our throttle.....

yea you put a large down payment so its definatly possible. I only put 2500 total out of pocket on a 24 month lease. 24 month programs are far from the best programs on the G, and I went with an S model which leases the worst of all the G models.

BTW, holy sh$*# are those brakes sensitive lol, glad you mentioned that, thought it was just me.

At the end of the day to come out of a lease with $1733 negitive equity and only have the car for 5 months is unheard of, had to do it while i could.

I tried to do the same thing a year and a half ago and sold my Corvette Z06 and bought a 4 cylinder Altima. Needless to say, I regret that decision and am looking forward to getting back in to a nice car. Before the Z06 I had a 350z on volks. It sure is tough going from having nice, fast, head turning cars to something forgettably pedestrian. Good luck, hopefully you can hang in there for a year or two.

Rocco, good for you bro! Although it must of been a hard decision for you, it certainly sounds like you made the right decision. Way to get your priorities straight......which is more than I can say for most people you age. Props to ya!

Hey man you have the ***** that most people don't, sounds like you made the right decision to me. I am 30 now and there no way I could afford this car when I was just getting started. Most people know exactly what the right decision is but most don't have the courage to make the right call, hats off to you.

Its a good feeling to have a nice car, but a nicer feeling to have your own garage to park it in!

Best of luck!

Good move. I'm 35 and just got this baby a few months ago. Prior to that, I've been driving used american cars since I was 16 and had a couple of used altimas over the past 6 or 7 years. It makes you appreciate the G that much more. And, yes, I bought my house 5 years ago and only allowed myself this car after the mortgage was under control. You've made a smart long term move, keep looking at the big picture.

GREAT decision and I'm very impressed that you have enough discipline to analyze your situation, come up w/ a game plan and, most importantly, execute it!

When I was about 26, I sold my twin turbo 300ZX which I had modded w/ about $20K in parts. Due to it having 90K miles, I only got about $14K for it. Everyone called me crazy for dumping a car that I had spent so much money on, but I parlayed the $14K into $50K thanks to the stock mkt bubble in the late 90s and I dumped all of my stocks in 2001 and bought my 2nd house. Haven't looked back since.

In 5 yrs time, you will own at least 1 house and maybe more properties and you will be driving a MUCH nicer car than the G35.

Given the down turn in the real estate sector, now is the best time to start saving money so that you will be in position to buy something once the market bottoms out in a couple of years.

Agree with other posters...

I only got my G at 33 y.o. AFTER finishing all schooling, getting a high-paying job, getting retirement accounts in great shape, and getting a nice house with a very manageable mortgage (monthly nut << 25% of gross).

Now it is a guilt-free pleasure having the G, a big garage for it, and enjoying driving it to work every morning!

thank you very much for all the positive comments...believe it or not but it def helps the sitution alot...even though i know i made the rite move, it still wasnt that easy. But its only been a day and a half and its already not a bad feeling at all. I 100% agree that the garage to put the car in is wayyyyyy more important then just the lil bit of flash I get for that second when someone sees me in my G.

On the bright side of things though, the honda accord I picked up is really nice, and with only 9k miles on it. Being that I work for the dealer, I really had a great deal put together for myself. Its good because with the rock solid resale value that honda has + the deal that I got on the car, I really wont end up in a loss situation when im ready to get out. The car is already 2 years old, so it took its two largest depreciation hits a car will ever take...first year, second year.

Thanks again, this is seriosly a great forum and I learned alot from it. You will be seeing me around from time to time regardless.

Funny thing is, ive had my car for 4 months now and ive been thinking about doing the same exact thing. How much did honda give you on the trade in and how much was the actual payoff?
