Thud at 40mph??
Thud at 40mph??
I'm taking the car in (again) this Wednesday, but I'm wondering if anyone has had/fixed this problem.
When cruising around 40mph (after going over 45mph), if I let off the gas slightly, then slightly touch the gas again (like when cruising), there will be a 1/2 second hesitation, then a "thud" about as hard as when the car shifts while driving normally. But, it's not shifting, rpms are constant.
It feels like the tq converter is locking/unlocking. But, it should be smooth, not at "thud."
I get a similar thud when accelerating slowly from a stop at around 1100rpm. It should be smooth, but it hesitates, kinda "hiccups" at 1100, then keeps going.
Anyone else have this problem??

Just found this in another thread I posted in:
"Maybe ITB07030?

ITB07030
IF YOU CONFIRM The vehicle has a shudder when the transmission is at operating temperature and the torque converter is: Engaging lock-up in 5th gear (light acceleration at 40 mph) and/or releasing the lock-up in 5th gear (coasting at about 40 mph). ACTION Replace the transmission valve body (control valve assembly). See this bulletin for further detail.

Well, I took the service manager for a ride in my car today. He tried to say that the "thud" was just "normal slack in the drivetrain." Even after I showed that in different gears, and any other speed, I don't have this problem.
That's until we drove a 2008 sedan for comparison. Much smoother, no thud/hesitation etc.
They're ordering the transmission valve body from the ITB.
I'll update when they install the part.

***UPDATE***
After waiting 3 weeks for teh part to come in, they DID NOT install the valve body. TSB 007030 is only for 2003-2006 sedans and 2007 coupes.
BUT, they did the cruise control TSB fix, and it FIXED THE THUD!!! So, I'm happy. No more thud at 40mph, no more thud when accelerating slowly from a stop.
