Intelligent Key Battery Life Sucks!!!!!!!!!

I had the recall done about 3 months ago, received two brand new ikeys, due to the cellphone issue everyone knows about...

So, I have had my new key a total of 3 months, and yesterday the display informed me that the battery is low already!!!!!! WTF??!?

This is supposedly a 3 month old key straight from the factory....and I drive "normally", once in the morning to work and then on the way, nothing excessive, not like I'm driving the G as a taxi cab, with 50 starts a day.

1. Has anyone had to replace the battery, and if so, where did you get one?

2. Why didn't infiniti make the battery rechargeable, and allow us to recharge by placing in key port?

I buy a 35k luxury sedan, and I have to pry open the key fob to replace a little watch battery....pretty retarded.

not sure why you are complaining.... 3 months sounds pretty good. My mouse eats batteries every 2 months.

a new cr2032 is only 99 cents.

You must be joking, I have to pry open my key every 3 months to replace the battery? comon.

The one in my BMW with comfort access is projected to last 5 years, as any watch battery should, and i have had it for 2 years so far, no need to replace...

this can't be right, requiring owners to open their keys every three months.

I agree; that's ridiculous. I'd talk to the dealer that gave it to you in the first place.

had mine 9 months too and no problems, might you be keeping it some where
were the buttons are constantly being pressed? I'd think constantly transmitting signals would kill it a lot faster? just an idea that sounds odd

1. Yes, after about 11 months. The BMW key you mention as an example (later in thread) is not in fact a Bluetooth key, correct? It plugs in? I think Bluetooth eats the battery faster, which doesn't particularly both me as I spent a total of $2 for two new batteries.

2. Probably because most of us would be annoyed having to jam the key in a port, instead of just keeping it in our pockets?

3. Sorry, I'm lost on this one. Is the prying open the fob somehow problematic? Have you never replaced a remote battery before? Pretty common, I had to do it on my last two cars too, and didn't consider them particularly defective...

Good luck

I don't think the Intelligent key recall

actually involves getting entirely new fobs. I thought they just replace a part. If so, the battery life would be counted from the time you got your car.

I agree, come on, it's not like it's just an old style key fob, the I key does many jobs, changing the battery more often isn't an issue IMO! You sound like an old lady!

I had mine for about 10 months before I've got my fob replaced(recall). No battery issue at all. I would not make a big deal out of it at the first time. If you have a same problem again and again yes you have a problem. If it happened once well be a man and take it. It could be a defective battery. I am pretty sure battery made somewhere else not at the infiniti. So it could of happen to a BMW or Jaguar or RR.

+1, I don't see what the big idea is whatsoever. The beauty of having an i-key is being able to leave it in your pocket so you don't need to plug it into the port. Your i-key is continuously communicating with the car via blue tooth, and that requires battery power to do so.

I am in my 13 month of ownership and haven't had to replace them yet.........BUT I am certainly not going to complain when the times comes.
