sunroof = wasted $$$ and wasted weight (especially up high), plus you probably can't wear a racing helmet for autocross with the lost headroom with the roof, depending on how tall you are

bluetooth = wasted $$$ and wasted weight

Plus all that crap breaks eventually. Take that wasted $$$ and wasted weight, put it toward some go-fast bits, maybe a twin turbo and a stealth harness and roll-cage. Oh yeah...

Or go get yourself a lincoln towncar and enjoy all that luxury...
Why did you buy this car if its all a waste? Lincoln Towncar my a$$! The G is supposed to be an upscale sport sedan, not a funny car!

Damn, I wish I would of known all those features were just a waste of money and added weight when I bought the car.

Last time I checked, the G wasn't a no frills Sports car.

Yeah, and I think most of the weight in the tilt, is there regardless, LOL, remember your '03? I mean, half the dash tilts with the wheel!

The point made here with all the accessories is the core reason I bought the car. If I preferred ONLY an engine and no 'frills', I would have taken a base equipped 335i 6sp. For about the same cost, and a sub $1k reflash... I would have had a near 400hp no frills daily driver.

FYI... I'm 6'0", and a helmet fits just fine for road events.
that base bimmer w/the reflash would be sick. or maybe a 2004 mistu evo rs, sans radio, a/c, pwr windows, or sound deadening equipment.

i think we are getting too option-expectant in this country. a few years ago, you could get the fx and the g in cloth. now you have to kill a bunch of animals for their hides. bmw used to offer no sunroof to us buyers. now i believe it is standard fare. cadillac is one of few companies to still offer sunroof delete. but only the cts is available in the stick. and only the infiniti g and mercedes c offer a manual option. bmw seems to be only company offering 6mt big sport sedans in america. europe still seems to get this right.

if you are a (wo)man who desires a well screwed together rear will drive manual-transmissioned SPORT sedan without a bunch of gizmos, your options are starting to get few and far between. i want a bit more daily refinement, maturity, and safety than comes with an evo rs, subie sti, neon (now caliber) srt4, etc. my g35s rwd 6mt is essentially a 350z for a grown-up with responsibilities, and i have the added bonus of taking 3 friends out for a helluva fast & fun ride...

on the led delete, i'm a fan. less weight! less to break!

EDIT: honestly, I don't have a problem with infiniti offering all these options for their cars - it sells a lot of vehicles and keeps the brand strong. hell, if they want to offer a mahogany wood and ostrich leather hides option for 10 grand, be my guest! all i'm saying is that this is one of the few 4 door rwd 6mt sports sedans you can still get in the states, so i hope they don't keep upping the standard features, weight, and associated cost.

i actually didn't buy this car, at least not with most of these options. i don't have the homelink mirror, i don't have the sunroof, i don't have the auto telescoping steering wheel, i don't have the heated seats, i don't have the bluetooth.

what i do have is a lightweight version of your G with 306hp, a 6spd manual, RWD, LSD, etc etc etc...

Just out of curiosity, how much does your car weigh?

Since when do people kill cows for their hides???
They're a food source and the hides being made into leather is just an example of using every part of the animal.
If you're buying cars with cloth just to save the animal, well then I assume we'll never see you enjoying a cheeseburger either.

Huh...well, to each his own, but I pretty much couldn't disagree with you more. Wait, maybe if you drilled the pedals I could disagree more

Just out of curiosity, do you consider the LSD, bigger brakes etc. in the Sport to be "wasted weight" too?

I kill cows for sport. You ever bow-hunted a heifer? They can waddle pretty quick when they want to. You have to lead them a few inches or put plenty of hay in their feeding trough to keep them still.

Could this thread get any more ridiculous? It started out about a couple of leds, now I'm a lesser man for having homelink on my mirror and I feel guilty for sitting on leather seats.

ha ha ha. i just did that to see what people would say, considering this thread has gone a bit off topic! i dont' hunt for sport, but i definitely eat meat. although i DO prefer cloth. in cornering, it holds your butt in the seat much better than the leather in our cars. i'm not big on heated seats either, so it's better in the cold and hot. alcantara is a wonderful option as well for high performance auto upholstery, one i would buy if offered.

drilled pedals, now there's a good idea! i don't consider LSD, bigger brakes, 18" staggered rims, more supportive sport seats a waste in weight, no. they are purposeful, and performance oriented. could the brakes be ceramic, or the seats carbon tubs with just a touch of upholstery? sure, but that would be cost prohibitive - reserved for only the best of sports cars, often costing over $100K.

Actually, drilled pedals would save a few oz.s in weight.

As for the LED ambient light... if one does the job of two... who cares?
As for it looking off balance, most people didn't even know the holes were even up there or what they did, so that's not a concern either.

I have 2 and they look centered and balanced.
I'm happy with them.
Now, isn't that all that really matters?

Not to get back on topic, but maybe Nissan/Infiniti did it to reduce the amount of light rather than to save $0.03. My '07 has them and the first couple of weeks there was a discussion here about them and a few of us wanted to unplug one of the two to reduce the light a bit. With two it's a bit bright sometimes.
