Update:

Mine did not fall into the recall range, but after bringing my car in they were able to duplicate my issues. They replaced the clutch assembly and WOW... feels like a new car!

As to "Arctic"... I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with the burnt clutch smell issue. I have been driving sticks for the last 10 years (everything from my moms 5MT 94 Cherokee 4.0 AWD to my 6MT 02 A4 3.0Q). I never had this problem... may just be a touchy clutch .

Exactly what was the issues with your clutch?
Why did they replace it?
I would appreciate to know before I schedule my third service.

Recall service done today

Like many others on the forum, I found this recall to be very positive. Previously it was nearly impossible to have a smooth start, and with the recent rains here in L.A. there was almost always some rear wheel spin on take-off. The slave cylinder recall has provided a little wider throw during engagement for a smoother start. It is still not ideal (and the engagement point remains very high, and the engagement is still nearly binary), but it is a vast improvement.

I had an oil change done as well, so I was not completely offended that they charged me a $9 loaner fee (nominally because of gas prices). Had it just been in for the recall I would have balked. Has anyone else experienced this kind of fee?

Loaner fee? What the heck is that? No, no fees at my dealership though sometimes if I get the loaner from the service manager instead of my salesman he tells me to return it with the same amount of gas.

They ask me to bring it back with same amount of fuel as well. Which think is fair.

Did they ask for the $9 and a full tank, or just the $9? I would have taken the $9 over the full tank because the G sucks on gas as we all know, and I put about 140 miles on the loner.

Just the $9; no filling the tank on my part (it was only half-full anyway).

Like others, I think the recall was definitely a positive. The car is a lot easier to drive smoothly now. It reminds me of my 95 Maxima--including the high engagement--which was easy and a pleasure to drive (or maybe I had gotten so used to). I did not get any ECU reflashing but this recall made a huge difference. I also had my battery replaced under warranty because this winter, it did not have enough juice to start on 3 occasions.

On the basic 2007 (or 08?) basic AT loaner car, I noticed that the seats sat lower--my head no longer brushed against the roof. It's too bad the seats were not as supportive as the sport seats.

i just got mine done yesterday, and now when the clutch is not pressed down, there is some squeeking noise (sounds like a squeeky belt slipping), and when i press it in, it stops. i even pressed it down and back really fast a few times and the squeek would go on and off, no idea whats wrong. any ideas?

EDIT: after taking it back twice and 3 loaner cars in 2 days, they figured out the clutch bearings needed to be lubricated

I got mine done last week and want to throw in my input, although I'm probably close to being the last person to have it done (didn't drive my car during the winter.)

I am happy the way it is now. 1st gear, and second gear seem to have a lot more "working" room. I am still getting use to not having to pump the gas pedal starting from a stop. Shifting to the other gears seems to be the same.

All in all, every shift feels nice and tight and I am really happy with the way it turned out.

sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but...

I bought an '07 6MT that falls in the VIN range listed for this TSB, is there anyway to know if this service has already been performed on my G?

I actually have an 08 sport 6MT and have several clutch issues although my car clearly falls outside the recall range. For one, when I release the clutch pedal (engage the clutch) at times i hear a loud rattle from the transmission. It sounds like a bad release bearing. In addition, when pulling off with "enthusiam" from a stop, after tapping the throttle a couple times to about 3k rpms, when I release the clutch pedal, it remains stuck to the ground and then I smell the clutch burning. Lastly, my clutch has slipped a couple of times when doing high rpm 1st to 2nd shifts, whith 20K miles on the odo.
Oh.. also that issue with pulling off gently from a start you all have been discussing- that's an issue with my car as well. Been driving stick since '95 and still occasionally stall my G.
I took it to the dealer about the first to mentioned issues, and they said it was normal (in first case- clutch rattle) and that they could not reproduce the clutch sticking to the ground.
I researched cluctch issues with my model/year vehicle and found others with similar issues.
Have any of you with an 08S 6MT or 07 had these issues?? If so, what have you done/found out about it??

ok TT: simply go to your dealer and ask them to pull up the service file for your cars vin number and they can tell you if the service has been done or not.

p10turbo: the symptoms you describe are SOMEWHAT related to what the voluntary recall is all about, as i had it about 18mo ago, the problem is that when the clutch gets stuck to the floor it wont come back up, the car is not drivable, thats how you know you need the recall done as the slave cylinder is bad.
What you're describing seems more like a bad clutch and/or you're burning the clutch by slipping it tooo much when taking off(thats when you would smell the clutch) however 2-3 hard starts wont mess up your clutch unless you were blasting off around ~5k repeatedly.

Go to an empty lot or road take you car to about ~30-35mph and put it in 6th gear and floor it VERY BRIEFLY(not to over stress the motor) and if the rpms rise quickly and the car is not moving accordingly then you have a slipping clutch else the rpms will VERY slowly rise as the car stresses for speed.

thanks man! I called my local dealer and he looked up the records from my VIN and showed that the TSB had been performed back in like March of '08 I think, which kind of sucks because I'm not very happy with the clutch and ESPECIALLY not the HORRIFIC damn noise that comes from the engine when I've been driving for a little while and come to a stop, I've had some ****TY cars in my life, all manual, and none of them had a sound remotely close to this, it definitely sounds like it's falling apart:0(

the way you describe the sound it seems something is wrong with your throwout bearing as mine does not make the noise 95% of the time and when it does it is VERY light and is easily gone within seconds of idling
