What is the point of Fog lights if they only operate with the standard headlights on? It seems like they wouldn't do anything as they are well overpowered by the Bi-Xenon lights.

The ugly yellow light is the edge for fog conditions. white, high-K light causes the vapor to reflect back at you so instead of seeing dark nothing, you see bright nothing. Yellow light doesn't reflect fog like that.

 

Ok, but is there a way to just turn on the fog lights without turning on High-K lights (Headlights)?

 

You would probably need to do custom wiring and add some relays.

 

So, it is worthless functionality since the white light reflects back at you even with the yellow fogs on? What am I missing?

 

Yellow fogs light up the road directly in front of you so you can see where you're going in pea-soup thick fog.

Headlights are meant to project lighter much further than fog lights. If the fog is heavy enough to warrant use of fog lights, you're probably not going to be going more than 5-10 mph.

 

why would you be driving with the fogs on and not the headlights???

 

Exactly. The fog lights are good for the GeeWiz factor only.

 

I wish someone would make a system for the plastic parts on journey/x models.

 

Up here in Canada, the fog lights are always on (even with the head lamps off) when you're driving. They're used as daytime running lights.

 

i'm pretty sure its obvious, and it was explained in this post.... the white light of the headlights reflect off the fog, as the fog lights, with a yellowish tint, do not reflect off the fog. so a foggy morning would benefit more from just the fog lights on than both the fog and headlights on. the worst fog i have experienced in houston, you should know this!

 

I did a similar thing to my 4runner, i could use the fogs independently (w/ headlights off) i was trying to see how the G is wired up on the fogs but it seems like its a bit more complicated than i had thought.

 

Although I think our foglights aren't the nicest looking ones out there, at night I drive with them on regardless of whether it's foggy because it does make road right in front of you just a tad brighter.

 

I did that with my Lexus and put in 2500K JDM Yellow Luminics.

They can be turned on independently.

They work great in the fog!

 

This question comes up from time to time and honestly, I do not understand why so many people push back on the person asking the question.
The fogs on this car suck, plain and simple.

If they were "driving lights", I would understand people coming back and saying that they like the way they look, or that they just like keeping them on.
Driving lights are meant to light the road ahead and to enhance the lighting down low.... plus they look cool.

Fog lights however, should be yellow or amber in color as the white/blue light reflects off the fog, making matters worse. But, let's get past the color issue for now.
These lights are almost completely non-functional. They're not bright, they do not light the road or the sides of the road like fog lights should, and when they're turned on, it's almost impossible to tell they're even on.
It's been foggy here in MA for 2 days now and I've given these a fair chance... they stink.

Of course, even if they were the correct brightness and color, they'd be less than 100% functional, mounted right next to the HID lights which must also be on at the same time.
