Bumper for side doors...good idea?

Called the nearest dealership about having them install and paint bumper strips on all four doors on my G35x '08 soon after taking it home a month ago, but after having it for a while I think without them looks better. Many cars have them for obvious reasons..but how does it look on a g?

Has anyone installed painted side door bumpers? Pics or comments would be helpful.

btw, are the side rubber strips called "bumpers"?

I think they called molding.

And there are magnetic ones that you can just slap on the door when you park somewhere to prevent dents.

Looks much much much better without them.

U should just use magnetic one.

Thanks Joker...I like the magnetic idea much better!!

Any suggestions on where to buy online? A quick check on ebay shows only those using adhesives.

I guess something like this will protect your door.
It looks you can attach / detach as you need.

I was looking at this one instead, normal looking ones but finding them using magnetic to stick to the door instead of adhesive would be even better. Can't seem to find it though...

just my 2 cents....but...i think it is pointless! you basically have two options.

1) the installed ones on ebay - which i think look pretty good! I would like to see them in person. depending on how they looked, i could see installing them on my car...but it would be primarily for looks, not for protection. in my experience...i got door dings everywhere but on the "bumper". doors for the most part are not all shaped in a curve to where they only hit the bumper...especially back doors. & that is most likely where you get the dings. you get kids jumping out of the back of a car or adults who need more room.

2) second option are those bumper contraptions. are you guys for real? those only attract more attention to your car. there are those demented people out there who are so jealous of our cars that seeing one with "bumpers" on it would only send them over the edge & cause them to do something crazy like key your car or something.

me personally...I just park in the back of the lot & try to find that magical spot that is against the curb so only one car can park next to me & i give them all the room in the world.

Unfortunately though...door dings happen. i have come to accept it...as painful as it is.

but then again...this is all coming from a guy who does not have a ding in his G yet!

I guarantee your car will get keyed with those on it.

To the OP's question, when I got my clear bra installed, the guy doing the install was at the dealer doing another clear bra and side protector installation on another '07 sedan. He asked if I was interested in the door protectors (about $300 bucks). I took a look at the other sedan, and while it didn't look bad, it just didn't look right.

Or just park far away from all the morons.

Don't you love it when you PARK far away then when you come out a beat up crappy lame car parks next to your G. Why do these people do this?

Because it amuses them to do so. I know someone who does the exact same thing in with his 1985 surburban, 5 different colors, including 2 doors from the junkyard.

He laughs everytime he does it.

Of course he's not parking like an **** right on top of the nice car, but he does love to park next to them. Oddly enough, he's been keyed for doing so.
