Yeah but that still involves a slightly diff block, pistons, ecu tuning etc. etc. etc. Just seems to be an expensive placeholder to:

1) To give the G37 coupe the upper hand during it's 1st year introduction
2) To prevent people from having to "settle" for a non-HR motor for the new bodystyle (but Nissan has put a new body onto an old motor before ala 2000 maxima)

I think it was just a placeholder... I personally wouldn't have purchased an 07 if it had the old engine in there. No offense to first gen owners.

It does seem more and more like it was a placeholder engine when you think about it. Me thinks the reason Nissan went with the 35HR was because they needed more time to fully develop the 37VHR's VVEL system. I also think that Nissan may have thought that the 35HR would be "good enough" to keep the G in front of BMW and Lexus until BMW introduced the N54 TT I6 and Toyota it's DI 2GR-FSE. From a "one size fits all" standpoint, it makes more sense to introduce the 37VHR across the board with the new 7 Speed Automatic ready to go. Here's hoping the US market doesn't get short changed.

To me it appears the VQ35HR had a decent run IMO. You have to keep your lineup updated or fresh, or else you lose customers.
It's also used in the '08 JDM Fuga.

Yeah we can guess now, but it really seems weird. The 3.7 liter engine was a year delayed from the "original" HR -- between the new G and the new coupe being out the door -- and I'm sure it's a mostly-straight swap between the G37 and the G35... or at least it looks like it when you just eyeball it.

It does look like a tactic to grab either the people that didn't want to get rid of their 05-06 G sedans or to capitalize on short-term leases on the sedan. But at the end of the day it's a really bad idea... 07 owners have been rocking the car for 2 years so it's not that bad... but if you just picked up an 08, you're probably fuming right now.

And it does seem like a rather hefty investment to produce thousands of cars with the 3.5 HR when the 3.7 is literally around the corner.

Not to mention that the moment that thing hits the dealers, 3.5 HR sedans in the used market are gonna get hammered.

They have to keep up, so these minor changes are required).

but more honestly, I'm happy that the body stayed the same (so I won't feel like I'm driving the "old" model just yet with an 08).

I really hope they introduce ATLEAST one new color. IMO, the Sedan would look beautiful in Athens Blue

You say that now... until you realize there's not enough coverage to make the aftermarket spend time on the original HR

Seriously though, it shouldn't be all that bad, but the 3.7 engine is obviously capable of 325hp -- regardless of what Nissan did to detune it for the G37 sedan. Whether it's injectors or a reflash, it's gonna suck when someone starts racking up the ponies on the G37 sedan with just bolt-ons.

Exactly!

The 335i and IS350 are both quicker than the G35. I know that speed isn't everything, but if Infiniti really wants to become a Tier-1 player, they have to keep up-to-date and ahead of the curve. Anyone who buys a new car should know that things move on, quickly. I am really glad that they are putting a very serious effect into Europe.

Damn, I just browsed the killer looking 07-08 sedans too. The G37 sedan could be my next used car in 2010 or so.

The G37 Sedan will weigh just as much as the coupe now, since its receiving the new brakes and the 3.7L motor, which I know .2L doesnt make a difference, but im sure the VVEL has a lil bit of extra baggage it adds
