I worked my *** off for 4 years.... plus, living with parents during that time helped as well.
I saved about $30K and spent $20K on the down-payment, left with 10K... which I already spent about 5K for my Work Varianza T1S and FI exhaust w/ HFC. I've got a few more grand left... but will try not to spend them any time soon. It's good to have some backup money you know?

I don't have any expensive mods, but I do have money that i plan to put into my car once summer hits. I just want to make sure i know ALL my bills and what not before i start buying rims and a lip. Though i did some how save up enough money to down 20k on the car last year, (23 years old at the time)

Its called budgeting. Spend what you can afford and you will be alright, dont try to keep up with the next person and mod at your own pace!

Just make sure you buy a lot less car than you can actually afford (By afford I mean afford to buy, not afford to make a minimum monthly payment for 48-72 months) and leave yourself some cash to do some mods. If you don't get too ridiculous with cars you could also SAVE some money; I know it is a novel concept for a nation with a negative savings rate, but I digress.

It's called, not buying a car that you cannot afford. I paid off my '07 G sedan in January. I've been told for a long time not to buy any car you cannot afford to pay cash for. Most people are slaves to their car loans. Pay off all of your debt and you'll be amazed at what you can afford.
The average car loan in America is $385 per month. If you never had a car loan, paying cash and invested that $385 every month in an average mutual fund earning 8% per year you'll have nearly $4,000,000.00 in 40 years, for just the amount of a small car payment! That seems crazy but it's true.
Oh, and I almost forgot I'm married with two sons and a 15 year mortgage, half paid off after 5.5 years. Saving, not spending is it the key to wealth. I'm thinking about buying I-forged wheels, just waiting to find the perfect wheel. Oh and of course I will only pay cash.

brb getting cut
student loans (one time only for the rims). other than that my part-time job provides enough cash for mods less than $1K.

i put together a portfolio of fixed income securities and laddered the coupon & principal cash flows so that they'd allow me one major mod per 6 months
