Is there a REAL performance advantage of the 2nd Gen over a 1st Gen sedans?

If Nissan can put a decent Hybrid 2.5 L Altima - I think Infiniti could or should do the same with a G25. I would definitely be interested in one (of course the G35 would still be around for the weekends)
