2008 Sedan 6MT concern
The lease is up on my 2005 Sedan 6MT and I just left a deposit on an 2008 Sedan 6MT. What makes me nervous is the horrible reviews the manual transmission has gotten. (The review on insideline.com made me question my decision on leasing this car) Anyone have a 2008 6MT sedan that can offer some insight? Any insight would be graetly appreciated.

I just bought my '08 Sport 6MT yesterday. After about a day of driving, I love it! Very Short/Clean throws, so much fun to drive! The clutch is a little tricky, but I had it down in no time. I'm pretty sure any problems with the 07 MTs were fixed afaik. Hope this helps. I'll try to remember to update you in another week or 2 after some more time behind the wheel.

the gearbox itself is great. the clutch tends to creak a little. after some reason, this slight creak is what the reviewers were all talking about. it's like the creak of an old spring, only much quieter.

bunch of pansies they are. "omg you need to replace the clutch every 20k miles" yeah no. the only thing i'll say bad about the clutch is that it is too vague on engagement. more feel would be wonderful

I have an 07 6MT. And have had no Problems whatsoever! there was a Clutch Recall, that replaced a defective clutch Sleeve. And after that change, the Pick-up point is alot more forgiving, and not as abrupt! And I have had no So called "Squeaking" of the clutch pedal! Although I only have about 5300mi on mine. It's been problem free!

I've only owned 3 cars in my life--all MT's. I felt at the beginning that all 3 were not easy to modulate the clutch. After 10k miles though, you just get used to it and then you think your initial reaction was overblown. My 2007 G35 6MT just has a sensitive throttle. Other than that, I really enjoy it. I do not agree at all with one of the review sites that says you should pick auto over MT.

I think i was trying to be to gentle with the clutch and the car when i first got it,now im not thinking about while driving and its gotten alot smoother...If you want to drive a sports car get the 6mt,if its a cruiser get the auto,thats just my 2cents...I got this car because I wanted a four door sports car...6mt.........

I just got an 08 6mt and I've been driving nothing but sticks for the past 9 years and can attest that the clutch is the trickiest I've driven thus far...though not so tricky it took me more than a day to get used to. The clutch pedal throw is just very short and you have to get used to finding the mesh point in half the throw. Beyond that, the transmission itself feels great. Very solid throws and the shift gates are well defined at firm. If they test drove the 07 and the slave cylinder was going out, it would make for VERY inconsistent mesh points as your pedal pressure will be different each time, so I could see why the reviewed it as horribly as they did. With the fixed cylinder, it's very consistent and very fun to drive.

Clutch better after Recall

I got my 07 G35s in April of 07.
I had the unfortunate experience of the clutch cylinder leaking several times and causing the clutch to depress and not come back up. It was serviced several times. (This was before the official recall). I've been driving an MT for 10+ years and never had problems like this.
After only 3 months of ownership, the car had to be towed to the dealer because of the clutch problem.
My initial reaction to the clutch was that the "take up" point was very high compared to the other MTs I've driven in the past (Miata, 3 Series, Honda/Acuras). You get used to it but it wasn't ideal. The throws on the other hand are nice a precise.
After the clutch recall, the "take up" point is much improved. Still not as smooth or as low as I'd like but definitely better.
I'd also like if the "dead pedal"/foot rest was higher ... I think the angle
is too low but others might find it just fine.
Also, I haven't had any further problems with the clutch after the recall was done.
Frustrating at first but now everything is fine.
It's a fun MT to drive. I really like driving MT ... even in SoCal traffic.

reviews for mt are overrated, these guys have about 20 different ppl drive the car a few time and they each give a review. Its a manual car each clutch is different and all you need is time to adjust to the fell of the clutch.
