are you kidding me?? I haven't even been pushing the car hard (well maybe a little starting at like 800 miles or so) but still... could it be because the dealer put in crap oil/filter?

This has happened to a few G owners in here. It's most likely the gas cap so just tighten the cap and wait awhile for the SES light to go off. If you don't want to wait, you can disconnect the positive lead on your battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect it after you've tightened the gas cap and the light should go off. If you try that and it doesn't, then take the car in.

+1 - it happened as soon as I took possession of the car, the cap was not ratcheted tight enough at the dealership. Gave me a scare, too - until I read this forum.

just happened to my g35S with 1700 miles. checked out the cap was a bit lose but is it just me or these caps just don't feel like they are tightening at all eventhough a few clicks are heard. was giving me the P0455 code. I have a code scanner so can easily clear it. will find out if it goes away tomorrow. . it better!

Could be anything. I don't recommend unhooking the battery to "clear the code."

The code is there for a reason. Usually the local auto parts store can read/clear the codes for free anyways.

Find out what it is first.

come to joysey and i'll scan your obdii, but if it's the P0455 code like i had lastnight, it'll be cleared by time you got here if you've tightened the gas cap

I had it on mine. The only way I got it to go out was to go past the click noise with the gas cap and then go half-way to the next click. This seems to make it tight enough to put out the light. I'm going to write it up next time I bring the car in.

My Infiniti is fine but my '08 Pathfinder had this exact same problem. I used this method between oil changes and they swapped the cap out for a new one the next time I brought it in. I haven't had the problem on it since.

Oil and an oil filter won't set off an SES.

Just tighten your gas cap.
