Nitrous Anyone?
Nitrous Anyone?
Among several other upgrades, I'm considering adding an NX system because it would be more than half the cost of turbocharging my G35S. So, I was wondering if anyone else has already tried this and has any advice???
I wanted nitrous for a while, b/c i really don't need the dismal gas mileage that i would get with a turbo/supercharged set up. But I'm afraid about blowing up my motor. A buddy of mine had nitrous in his accord, and worked fine a for year, then one day he decided to race a mustang, and BAM, motor blew.....
It can be done. I don't have any experience with this motor, but I'm betting you wouldn't want to go more than a 75 shot based on how high the compression is already on the motor.
FWIW, nitrous should cost MUCH less than 1/2 the price of a turbo. Nitrous kits are usually less than a grand (not including filling up the bottle). I've seen a NOS universal kit that would work for around $650.

SxExCx, what setup exactly do you have on your G? I'm gonna definitely want to go direct port, probably 75-100 shot, which I saw on nitrousexpress.com for $1300 for a complete V6 kit. Also, did you have to upgrade any of your engine parts for the increased compression?
Make sure you've get all you need in the kit. Wide band O2 sensor, rpm window switch and fuel pressure safety switch is a must.
You don't want to end up with a backfired engine. It does not look pretty.

The safest system (IMO) is the Venom VCN-2000 by far. Each system is custom programed for each make/model car. It has an intelligent computer that adjusts the cars a/f so you dont run lean. Also it has the rpm, WOT, shift and fuel pressure safeties built in. You can also select electronicly how much you spray and how (linear increas, lump shot, timed). Also comes with a digital display that shows you all your info. Venom stopped producing the system this year due to no one buying ($2000+ kit). It has been replaced with a cheaper VCN-750 system that has alot of the same feature.
Other than that, I would get a Utec to control any other system.

Well no you don't need an intercooler with a turbo either. But, and this is a big but, its the smart thing to do if you want consistancy. Plugs are cheap, yes, get them. Octane, thank you for pointing out a spelling error. No I don't use 91, I use 93
However, when I take my DSM to the track I typically use 110 leaded.
As for Venom, do you believe everything you read in tehinternets?
I think I know you btw, didn't you say "I need two of the big bottles by tonight"?

Still way less than 1/2 the price of forced induction. What's it cost for a properly setup turbo kit? $8k or more?
Another nice thing about nitrous.... easy to uninstall and sell.
