You sound like me. Your gut is telling you that the 08 is the sensible choice, cheaper NOT that much different than the 09. BUT as long as your not stretching the budget to a place that does not make sense in this economic climate ( read not making your family eat hamburger helper or worse) then personally I say g37. If you can really afford it and you do not get it you will regret it as long as you own it. Honestly, it sounds like you are looking for people to tell you to get the SENSIBLE choice, when your heart is screaming G37. I do not say this to poke at you, I am going through the same struggle. I want the 37 pretty bad, but my sensible side says 35. No matter what you choose, enjoy it and be happy in the fact that no matter which one it is, it will most assuredly be very good. Good luck.

Consumer Reports reported 5.4 sec for a 2007 Journey sedan, 5-speed automatic (and they don't rev the cars before launch).

As one poster mentioned, there is roughly a .2 second difference between the 35 and 37's. I believe the one mag that reported a 5.0 for the G37 does the reving-stuff before launch and that same mag reported a 5.2 for a G35 (I'm not motivated enough to provide a citation at this point. I find the splitting of tenths of seconds pretty silly. As WUKILLABEEZ has tried to explain, when you're dealing with tenths of seconds, driver reaction time, tires, etc., are going to have a far greater impact on the outcome of a "race."

You're exactly right... Roughly a .2 second difference between completely stock VQ35HR and VQ37VHR engines. Best 0-60 time for the G35 sedan 5.2 seconds... For the G37 sedan 5.0 seconds... For the 350Z with the VQ35HR best stock 0-60 time I've seen is 4.9 seconds. Best time reported for the new 370Z with the VQ37VHR engine is 4.7 seconds... But like you said the driver would really determine who would win anytime you compare vehicles that have such similar engines/performance.

Seems like I'm in the same boat as everyone else deciding between the 08, and the 09. Except I'm looking for the best lease deal they can muster. I haven't went shopping for quotes yet, but I'm 100% positive, the shadesmen are going to sell me the leftover 08s rather than the new 09s, in which I don't blame them. But if I get the right deal, I'm def going for the 09.

I wound up getting the 08 as well a week ago. I went looking for an 09, but they gave me a 39 month lease quote for like $600 or something..I wound up getting the 08 G35X, with premium package, 12k miles....Bank fee in lease, NY taxes in lease, $459 p/month...it just doesnt seem like they want to lease the 09's right now, or in the near future...

I don't think I'll ever buy another new car. I've had four. I saw an '08 G35x on craigslist for $19k with nav. No damage, low mileage. Damn! I paid $33k ish plus $3k in tax and paid it off promptly. Wow, a huge waste of money. I my model regularly sells for $24k or less. Save as much as possible. You gain about 20 hp but that's about it. 20 hp is not worth $5500.

This is an old thread but I was wondering what the OP decided on? I'm in a similar situation but the price gap is about $3K. Journey RWD w/sports package. Besides the bigger engine, minor HP gains and the new trans, what upgrades does the '09 have over the '08? Right now, there's a $4K incentives for an '08 model vs only $2K for an '09. Are the upgrades worth $3K?
