Considering to trade in 05 BMW 525 to G37XS

Considering to trade in 05-BMW 525 to 09G37XS

I test drove G37XS and it was lot of fun , high tech electronics, powerful, agile, grippy and using paddles was very initituative

I may lose some back seat space coming from 525 but g37 back seats should suffice

Few questions since the test drive was only for 15 minutes

1) Does paddle let u downshift directly say from 6 to 4 or 6 to 3 with 2 or 3 quick clicks on left paddles
2) How good are the gear changes n manual mdoe
3) G37XS seems very stable around corners probaly due to AWD, is it grippy in rain?
4) Any negatives trading 525 for G37XS other than backseat space?

Thanks

If it is downgrading. Why would you want to trade?

1. Yes a few clicks and you have downshifted (or upshifted) to the gear of your choice.
2. Gear changes are very crisp, particularly at WOT. Fairly relaxed when you drive at a leisurely pace.
3. Great traction under any circumstances. Any rear wheel traction loss and the fronts kick in instantly.
4. I would consider this an upgrade if you are performance minded. The G37xS will smoke your 525i. Otherwise, some of the interior materials won't be quite at the standard of your 525i. That is not to say that the G has bad qualities here, it's just that BMW interior fit, finish and materials are excellent. This from someone who went from a 540i 6 speed to a G35 6MT and now a G37xS.

Hi all,
I had a Porsche Cayman S that I sold to get a 911 and a 4 door but the 911 purchase got delayed and instead got a certified Bmw 525 for DD activities

I had the 525 for an year, very boring to drive and seat comfort was average at best and power sucked

I test drove the g37XS, loved it, traded the 525 for the G37Xs

My one week review with the g37xs
1) very very comfy sport seats
2) Love the electronics ( ipod, Nav, Btooth, sat radio, backup camera, voice control etc)
3) Bose is not that bad compared to my beamer base audio
4) Handling: O my , a 4 door sedan that is exciting to drive and very good in turns. I took the same turns at the same speed as in my previous cayman S and the g37Xs was very good and could be even better with summer tires. This car is very confident inspiring in turns and I am sure with Summer rubber it can go even faster around turns
5) transmission: I loved the 7 speed in DS mode and paddles are fun to use , makes the drive less boring
6) Ride quality: very good for a sport sedan
7) Snow mode: I tried the snow mode which sends power 50 -50 to front and rear wheels . The steering felt stiffer in snow mode and I liked the regular mode that is 100% rwd till it needs to send power to front wheel and in this mode the steering feel is light and responsive

I test drove a 335XI too but the G 37 got me more excited , I will still get my 911 someday but the g37xs is a practical comfy car but sill fun fun fun

Infiniti has hit a home run with the G37XS, Love it

I know how you feel. I can't really hint anything wrong with my 2007 G35x except fuel economy. Literally the interior is amazing as the exterior. Handling is amazing. No shade intended but I don't know why anyone would buy a 3 series over a G sedan.

Main gripe i have in terms of practicality is the lack of rear folding seats :/

I don't want to think of it as a downgrade. The g is more reliable. The car is just better.

Especially a 7 yr old BMW, the parts that start going south really sting the wallet. BMWs are damn nice cars as long as you're under warranty and within a reasonable drive from the dealership. At least IME.
