Does the VDC really turn off?

There's been a few times my right foot gets a little crazy when it knows the VDC is off, but it seems the ol' nanny still kicks in when the car gets a little sideways (read "happy time for the VQ").

I tried doing a search regarding VDC topics, but was without success. Any comments? I'd like to report back to my right foot when I have an answer.

Thanks!

On 2003-2006 models, no.
Does it let you do a 70mph contorlled slide? YES.
I have only noticed it not being fully off once in my 4 year ownership and doing countless retarded things. The only time i noticed it when i went into a 720 spin (accidently, i was trying to accomplish something else) and that is when the ABS started activting, without me touching the brake pedal and some other wierd stuff.

Odd, I was pulling out onto a 55mph road so I gave it some juice. In first gear the back end broke loose and slid out a little, right afterwards the VDC cut the throttle and SLIP light flashed almost as if the VDC was still on. (Manual mode). Needless to say, my right foot had nice a buzz kill.

Maybe I just suck at driving and the G knew I was about to spin out? lol. Although, I did perform the same maneuver in my 05 6MT and DID spin out (luckily I was just playing around on a some backroads). So I know the VDC in that car was shut off complely.

I noticed this numerous times in the snow this past winter, VDC off and the SLIP light still flashed once in a while when sliding or slipping. I'm a defensive driver and don't goof around on the road, so I don't care if this is how it is supposed to work. I'm just curious why the VDC killed the power when it was supposed to be taking a nap.

after doing donuts in the snow with VDC off, the SLIP light will start blinking after awhile of being stupid. Eventually it stays on until I restart the car. I figure I'm just confusing the car. The VDC doesnt seem to kick in at all tho.

On my X, its either on or off! when its off it has never, stopped, or kicked back in, and this is from doing donuts in parking lots, (winter), ice racing, autocrossing, and tracking the car at B.I.R.

From this part of your description I am not sure if you just have it in manual mode in an AT or if you actually are deactivating the VDC with the override button near the trunk release..... In manual mode the VDC is still in control, just shift points are adjusted

my 6mt 07 lets me do a LOT of crazy **** when vdc is off.

the 4was stays on and abs stays on, but it never cuts my throttle and tries to correct a slide even when i need it.
