Bought 09 g37x sedan - thoughts

Hi All,

I bought a 37x sedan with prem/nav for my wife a few months ago. I got a pretty unbelievable deal. Anyway, I have been having a pretty good ownership experience of my 04 6mt coupe so we bought the car with some confidence. Overall, the car is great. Some shortfalls:

1) Although the interior in general is a HUGE improvement over the earlier Gs, the steering wheel looks worse IMO! They should have put some washi aluminum covers around the controls instead of rubber/plastic.

2) The rear seats should fold down.

3) There is something jerky with the AT happening on cruising downshifts from like 4-3 or 3-2 (can't tell). It is a bit jarring.

What do you guys think?

Folding rear seats are bad for structural stiffness.

The AT may break in and learning your driving habits of the next few weeks. If it doesn't improve there may be a software update (dealer should know about this).

Have them install the transmission software upgrade for the 09s.

Thanks guys, I will ask the dealer to check the software version when she brings it in for its first service.

BTW, I got platinum graphite/stone grey color combination - its pretty sleek.

I think the grey interior looks much better than the black or 'wheat' - but the wheat is pretty cool with the 2 tones. Anyone have the wood? I like the aluminum better TBH.

Anyone agree/disagree about the steering wheel? I actually like the original 03 G steering control 'look' better....

+1 on getting the reflash to the transmission. I had it done to my 09 FX35 with the 7 SPD and your car falls into the same ITB.
Here you go :

I think the shape and size of the G37 steering wheel is perfect.

I am assuming that this AT software update is not so urgent and that I can simply get the dealer to install it next time I bring the car in for regular service.

OR, is it something that can cause more than typical wear or damage to the vehicle and should be fixed asap?

Thanks guys!

About the steering wheel - I think the size and shape is OK, I am more nit picking on the amount of rubber - it could use a slight more 'bling' I think.

It is not necessary to reflash it right away, just have them do it at your next service. It does not hurt anything to leave it.
I do suggest contacting the Dealer now to tell him of your shifting complaints and that you want them to perform the ITB on it during your next service. Some Dealers have balked at doing it but they shouldn't.

Does this reflash apply to regular Journey (not sport) models too? Just purchased our G37 a few days ago and it seems to have some abrupt downshifts and seems to be a bit too "busy" at speeds under 30 mph. We just traded our 07 G35 and it seemed a bit more settled at those lower speeds. The G37 is better in every other aspect though (epecially MPG).

Yes your car would be included. If your car exhibits the above signs and was manufactured before a certain date (June I think) the ITB would apply.
