If there is a lot of ice in your area maybe the vdc is being used a lot. It functions off of brakes only and this could murder the rear rotors. My Audi always killed rotors because of things like this.

Get softer pads too and just change them more if you are tired of changing rotors.

I live in NJ, and it only snows about 5 times a year. There is rarely any ice in my area...However, I am suspecting that the rear pads were not changed even though the service records say so...It really doesn't make any sense. However, the fronts were probably done.

my g is an 07 with 40k miles and still on the original tires... i personally could say that my g doesnt wear tires prematurely at all. although its about time to change them. i would say your average G could go over 30k miles on the original tires.

although i'm the 2nd owner, i'm sure the originals are still on my '08 sedan, i'm at 30k and they have next to nothing left. Time for new.

Wow, I rip through tires compared to you guys. I have 44k on my 08 and I'm on my third set of rears and second set of fronts. I just replaced the rear pad/rotors. I'd say I've spent about 2k in maintenance (some of my oil changes were included with the vehicle). The tires are the most expensive but oh well. The only thing that's broken in my car is the cup holder (amazingly on a day that my wife drove it).

$363 for maintenance cost for 3 years is very cheap, probably unheard of from any German rival. Even if you were to drive it more and harder it would probably be the same price with the addition of more tires and oil changes and air filters. And I can say that for certain because of the way I drive my 05 which has behaved very good so far even with the problems that I caused myself and the mods.

I'm starting to have trouble finding another well kept 05-06 sedan these days so if anything should happen to my 05, the 07-08 is at the top of my list even if it is close to 100lbs heavier with a 0.27 drag coefficient though I'm sure the 03-06 Nismo diffusers fit to bring it down to 0.26 on the model with the full spoiler.

07 X bought new, warranty is over

07 has almost 60,000 on it at 25-k it needed 2 front wheel bearings, at 27 -k
it needed a CV boot which took over a week to install, dealer did not have the part. I just took it in for the paint peeling at the arm rests and radio controls mounted on steering wheel along with a p-0455 evap code.
I was charged 110 bucks for diagnose even though I supplied the code.
they said they would replace the arm rests but steering wheel was to expensive 1,200+, the code was cleared and before I got home it was back on, brought it back and they replaced the evap purge control solenoid for free. "customer loyalty program".
runs like a champ... mobil 1 in the oil, and front and rear diffs..
by the way it snows like crazy up here in the northeast I alternate Blizzaks with the original Goodyears, the good years were junked last year tread was completeley worn got about 25-k on the good years ... Blizzaks still good Just bought a new set of Yokahamas, back to the new car ride..... my next one will be another coupe, I miss the 2 door !

I've been posting here periodically since getting my '07 G35S 5AT sedan with Premium and Navigation on 12/6/2006.

In the past three years, I've thoroughly enjoyed the car. I love the styling (and think it looks far better than the 3-series), the quality, and the driving dynamics.

Over the past three years I have had to spend (or have done):

Oil changes - $39 per oil change, 3X a year, for 3 years = $351.
in-cabin air filter - $12 at Pep Boys (DIY).
New tire (because I drove over a roofing nail) - $225.

So, not counting the tire, total maintenance has been $363 for 3 years. Not bad.

The car has had zero squeaks, zero rattles, zero maintenance or reliability issues. It has 15,300 miles on it now. The interior shows no signs of wear on either seats, dash, or *****/buttons.

Overall, I still could not be happier with the purchase decision. I still look back on it when I walk away in parking lots, and still can't wait to get behind the wheel.

My only gripes:

- Thicker, more plush carpeting would be appreciated
- Thicker, richer leather would be appreciated (though this seems to be getting addressed).
- Tire life...front tires are nearly bald after 15,300 miles on not-very-spirited driving.

I enjoy the car as much today as the day I got it, and will probably keep it another 3 years. (That will be my 40th bday, when I'll probably get an M56 or E550).
Mine was delivered 11-8-2006 and it now has 63K on it. I really like the car but I have had many more issues than this above post. All covered under warranty by a great dealer. Among the problems I have had are door trims replaced and steering wheel replaced for the same paint issues as the door trim, AC compressor replaced, new power window motor, rear brakes at 45K (my expense as well as new tires), aluminum door trim started to peel and it was replaced. I take the car to the dealer for all maintenence and am happy. One problem has never been solved and that is rattle coming in headliner from behind the driver's seat. It has been in MANY times for this, sometimes overnight, but I still have it. I turn the radio up now. All in all, the seats have help up well and the car still drives very nicely.

Wow, I just realized I have had my 2008 G35 6MT since March 2008. That's 3 years now! I only have 18,000 miles on it tho (I have other cars I drive).

So far, Issues I have are as follows:
1. clutch pedal feel / abrupt engagement, being hard to use is my biggest complaint. There is no exuse to have such poor clutch pedal feel on a 2008MY car. This is not new technology!
2. 6 speed trans is geared way too short: 3000rpms in 6th at 76mph! One can't get good gas mileage on fwy (unless you go 60mph!). Best fwy mileage i have achieved is 24.5 going ~70mph. But main issue is engine is just spinning too fast un-necessarily. They could have easily made 5th and at least 6th a bit taller.
3. Manual trans is a bit stiff and some gears hard to engage when cold. So you have to be patient and maybe skip a gear here and there until up to temp.

Otherwise I really enjoy the car and think it looks great!

I too use Blizzaks and winter wheels in winter. They work great. Car is totally undriveable with Bridgestone Potenza RE50A's on it in winter.

New35,
if you got 25k miles out of your Goodyears, I guess that's pretty good. I've got less than 18k on my Potenzas and the LR has 4/32" tread left. RR only has 3/32" so they are pretty well worn out. I think 2/32" is where you hit wear bars. Front tires have 7/32" and are still good. I guess I have to not steer with the rear so much

What happened with your wheel bearings? I hear a low frequency howling sound between 40-45mph, sounds like it comes from front but I thought it was just coming from tires. Tires get louder as they wear/age. I hope it is not my wheel bearings. Having read your post tho, noise I hear does sound like the onset of wheel bearing noise! I have had them go bad in other cars before.
UPDATE: Found out front wheel bearings are known issue on 2007, 2008 G35's. Apparently they are ball bearings and when you hit pot holes, the high load damages the surface finish on the ball bearings. I just drove mine on the fwy today and the howling has become quite loud. I will probably have to have wheel bearings done soon. Also they have to change whole steering knuckle bearings are not stand alone service part. Hope wty covers.

Overall, I am happy with my G so far.
