Hey, I am new to the forum and looking at getting a G. I currently have on 01 Maxima and had a few questions. Do the G's have Catalytic Converter issues? The Maxima has been nightmare on those and O2 sensors. Any help is greatly appreciated!

^ None that I have heard about. I dont recall anyone ever mentioning a problem with that for any year G35.

I can tell you my father has a 97 Max since brand new and never had it. I had an 03 Max until 08 with no problems and i'm not aware of the G having that issue.

I had an 02 Max and am aware of the 02 sensor (life threatening to say the least... long story). Glad to say there has been no similar issue with the G!

Wow, 3 years and 15k? 3 years and 45k here. I totally have to agree with you on the carpet. I lifted up the rear carpet and couldn't believe how they really cut corners. Not only is the carpet rough, but you can see right through it if that sounds right. Anyway, the car is pretty hot and I am still happy to be driving it!

Are there any other common issues that the G have? I am just trying to check out all possiblities as I am already skeptic of Nissan products!

Garnet Canuck,
Regarding key fob battery life, I have found that the IP low fob battery warning light comes on way too prematurely. I have been looking at it every time I start my car for the last 8 months. I bought a replacement battery. I will install it when original battery in my fob stops working. If I can get more usage out of current battery, why change it. Are you replacing your battery when this warning light comes on or when fob stops working? If the former, you could probably cut your battery consumption in half.

Malagabee,
Have you always had wheel vibration problems with your car or just when you put all season tires on it? My guess is your wheel vibration may be linked to your replacement tires. I find that spending extra to get first rate tires, is usually worth it in the long run because you get tires that stay round, and are balanced and don't vibrate and make noise. My experience with less expensive tires is they can be a pain in the butt.

I agree.
I just recently changed the original fob battery, only because I got tired of looking at the warning light but it still worked fine even though the warning light had been coming on for many months.

skeptical of Nissan products???

why? I mean, I'm not a die hard fan or anything, but I can't see why someone being skeptical. I would guess they're regularly in the top quartile of reliability and overall quality.

i didn't even realize til after i purchased the vehicle that the front and rear's have different offsets.. man.. i know w/ my commute (and the way i drive) i'll be spending a grip on tires in the future =/
2008 6MT
Original Bridgestone Potenza - 17 K miles
GoodYear Eagles - 27 K miles (too loud)
Kuhmo Ecsta Premium LX 15K miles so far, looks like there is plenty more miles on them.

Lots of miles in 25 months (60K), one cross country trip (6K in two weeks), three 2K round trips, and 30 miles each way to work. The car runs like the day I bought it. Change oil every 3.75K miles with Synthetic. Yes I know you can get more miles out of Synthetic but old habits are hard to break. Other than normal air filter changes and differential fluid changed at 50K no other issues. Ran over a deer doing 80 MPH, no damage other than a flat tire. Not even a allignment issues. (See One Tough Car thread)

thank you for the tire info.. so you recommend the kumho's then?

does the infiniti dealership only carry the potenza's? i'm pretty sure they can order whatever tire you want them to right?

My Potenzas are toast every 12k but I squeeze 15k. Discount Tire is usually where I get them since they match anyones prices. I know the Potenzas are a grip but I swear its the best tire I have EVER driven on. For spirited driving this tire has never let me down. Well worth the $ IMO.

Conti ExtremeContact DWS or the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum are nice. I'd go with the Conti's myself right now.
