Cabin Air Filter Recommendation/User Feedback

Hi guys,

New to this forum so sorry if I'm bringing up an old topic. I need to change teh cabin air filter in my 2007 g35x and I've been reading all the previous posts. There's just so many different brands out there...Genera, K&N, Hastings, Fram, Wix, TYC, NPN, etc...I can't tell which is good.

Most places I've called have recommended Genera so my question to you all is can anyone confirm this is a top brand? Also is there really any difference between the micro filter ones and active charcoal etc...

Prices on all these different brands vary from $12 - $30+ and you can't really tell what the extra money is getting you. Is the $12 one going to make my car smell like last week's pizza and the $30 one like last night's stripper???

Advanced thanks for your opinions.

I bought the

$11 in-cabin filter from Pep Boys.

I'd be stunned beyond belief if one person here could drive around in two different G's for an extended period of time and reliably tell which one had the "better" in-cabin filter in it...

In fact, I suspect that the in-cabin air would be indistinguishible between the two cars to all but the most sensitive scientific equipment on the planet.

Well you might not be able to tell the different but somebody with astma or alergy may can. If you want to go with a better quality one go for the FX filter. They are better quality for sure. I believe they are charcoal filter or something like that.

why would you want to go with a charcoal filter when the oem one even isnt. that would be technically an upgrade. if your looking for just a replacement anything out there would do the trick.

I wouldn't but if somebody wants to get better quality there is an option. I am happy with the fram.

There are two OEM filters, a basic microfilter, and one with activated charcoal. You can use either, and yes one can easily tell the difference in how the air smells with the activated charcoal when the vents are open and you're stuck in rush-hour traffic.

Agree with soundmike re. carbon activated > plain

I used to use MicronAir charcoal filter but found a cheaper alternative in
Fram FreshBreeze Fram FreshBreeze

I just replaced mine with the Fram Freshbreeze (bought from Amazon). Seems fine and I believe it is carbon activated. I don't think a cabin air filter is something I want to spend top dollar on anyway.
